Is it really that low a price? After taxes etc it comes to like 32k.

32K if you're lucky @ 3%

If you've got a private hate on someone, you point them towards this vehicle.

I don't understand this car.  It's a Subaru Impreza with less space but more cladding.  Kind like a sheep in Lions clothing.
OK... You're new here.  I'll show you the ropes.

There are two things you speak no blasphemy over in this forum: The MIATA and Subaru.

Even where Subaru has blundered, ye shall respect Subaru's authoritah. Speak no ill words of our beloved, our precious!

... And if we read one more cat reference out of you, we cannot be held responsible for what Fobroaders may do.

Steph says that was just an oversight. It's 12.0 L/100 km. I've added it in the story.
Remember, folks, this is not the CVT Crosstrek - the manual had never been the fuel miser's choice.  It's sole purpose is to keep Fobroader happy ;)

I'm talking about the base model, which is $24,999. Amazing value.

I drove one for a week Artic, didn't have any trouble overtaking, and even with my lead foot still got 10L/100km.

^ Yup. Beast in snow, good fuel economy with the CVT, and the base model was about as cheap as a person could get AWD at the time.

well, what other awd vehicles end up right in that price range? and it's definitely the "coolest" in that kind of price range.... and we all know (though wont always admit), looking cool to our peers, plus saving money?.... done and done.

Yup.  I rented one couple years ago on my way to a meeting in december in a snow storm... I ended driving in the ditch for fun  ;D, and then into a gravel pit and then a into a residential development.  I have to say the AWD system is impressive( it was my first Subaru try). The ground clearance with the approach angle is also very impressive.  I had to push it quite a bit to bottoms out.  In -10 or colder on the highway driving 110 i averaged 7.5L\100km... pretty good.  The cvt in city driving\traffic was also very nice.

And..? Same with any other vehicle.  No one quotes a $50K car as $59K including PDI, freight and fees around here, why be pernickety about this one.

Pernickety? I think you are ascribing emotions that weren't present in my post.

Sorry if an accurate statement of the car's pricing upset you.

LOL, I'm just saying that everyone generally talks about a car's price before tax when comparing between makes/models.

The on-paper fuel ratings don’t hurt too badly – 10.3 city, 7.8 highway – but my real-world readings came in a fair bit higher than that over the course of a week.

Any reason for not reporting what the real world fuel usage was?

Steph says that was just an oversight. It's 12.0 L/100 km. I've added it in the story.

That's exactly what I did. There was no tax in my numbers.

Quoting MSRP is best, as there are different taxes / fees and maybe offers depending on what part of the country you are in.  It at least gives a constant, like the fuel economy numbers, even though we all know our actuals will be different.

Quoting only MSRP gives a false impression.  In this case the Freight/PDI/Fees is $2000.  Another big variable is the finance rate.   Can't talk good deal/bad deal without all of the above elements.

And this is what OMVIC is trying to achieve: clarity.

Either way, it's still very good value, as you have to add all of that on to any of it's competitors.

The only price allowed should be the "all in" price including fees and taxes. If MSRPs are quoted though, everyone knows that taxes and fees are extra, so it's not being disingenuous to stick with MSRP.

The CrossTrek is still very good value for an AWD car with actual ground clearance. I'd look at the competition, but it would be very unlikely I'd get anything other than another CrossTrek in this class.
