Great looking car, IMO its one of the best if not the best looking compact, exterior anyway. Likely priced right too. I'd even be interested for day to day transportation, given that its not much money.

Looking forward to reading many full test drives, specifically how well the suspension is sorted and, for automatic buyers, the DCT which has had criticisms in other Hyundais.

The styling of the Sport is really spot on, IMO.  For those that find the Civic styling a bit much, this should appeal.

Not sure what is the intended target competition for the Elantra 2x Sport, but I would think it wouldmostly compete with the top-spec Mazda3/Golf/Civic Sport rather than GTI, ST kind or even Jetta GLI. I don't think the 15-20 hp advantage on the paper would give it any real-world performance advantage over the others anyway.

Overall looks like a nice package from Hyundai (I'd say the Elantra to have) adding a little more spice compared to the pedestrian Elantra.

I like this car, although I would like to see a Coupe version of it. I think that its' "looks" should match its capabilities, although it looks "cool" as it is  :)

A 4.99% interest rate and crappy residual makes this car more expensive to lease than a GTI Autobahn which costs something like $7k more. Yikes.

Interesting comparison with the Civic.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9gzsSgVejA

I found it both interesting and surprising. Almost a "roll reversal" to pre-determined thinking, eg: Elantra has better steering, more sporty suspension, more conservative styling, Civic is quiet and has better ride. And isn't the Civic turbo available with a manual, if not right now, soon?

I'm even thinking these two models aren't that comparable, and with the Civic si coming out, will the price be lots higher than the Elantra (I would expect so). And will Honda break with tradition and offer an optional non-cvt automatic in an si.

I think the Civic Hatch is available in the turbo / manual combo, but not the sedan.  If that is set to change anytime soon I haven't heard.  And yes - in this comparison with the regular Civic, the Elantra Sport held a price advantage.  That will be a much greater advantage against the Si.  Still looking with interest to the Sport / Si matchup, though.

But yeah, I figure the haters will positively CHOKE on the observation that the Hyundai had better steering.

Stupid comparison.  The Elantra Sport will compete directly with the Civic SI.

Why stupid - because you said so?  In this test the Elantra Sport was already less costly than the loaded regular Civic - by $2,500.   You think buyers at that price point will feel obliged to ignore it because you say it can only be measured against the SI?

very nice car.  I sat in one at the dealer couple days ago! in term of competition maybe it would get some of the GLI shoppers.  Relatively same size sedan, same HP, manual 6spd but less $$...

People may well want to pay the extra for a GLI Autobahn. I might, but only when its on the new VW platform (like the Golf) with its improvements, which its not and won't be anytime soon.

Here's the list price difference for the GLI DSG vs. the Elantra Sport Tech DCT, before freight, PDI etc. VW is $ 36,395-, Elantra is  $ 28,999-. Difference 25.5%, huge.

We will agree on one thing, you will need some serious $$ to pay for the difference between an Elantra Sport and a Civic SI. Big money. And if Honda doesn't fix their inferior steering and improve its non sporty suspension on the 1.5 turbo Civic (see above noted review), then the SI will start out behind in the comparison.
