Welcome to Alberta, home of draconian speed enforcement. Edmonton writes somewhere around a half a million of them a year.  With hundreds of thousands of photo radar tickets generated each year, it's obvious it's little more than a cash grab.

Had to look at the statistics from Transports Canada. Alberta seems to be above the national average for fatalities per billion km driven in 2015.

So perhaps it is a cash grab.

Yup.  All those tickets have make no difference in terms of safety.  The City of Edmonton has actually had a drop in revenue as people are changing their behaviour, so they've asked police to find new fishing holes.

In the deep southern US (SC, GA), it's very common for municipalities to accept a higher fine for moving violations in exchange for no insurance record or driving points.

An acquaintance of mine was ticketed for running a red light somewhere in rural Georgia after it had just turned red. The local police officer said he could pay a 150 $US fine as is to the state, or a 450 $US fine just to the local county with no points or insurance impact.

Yup, actual dangerous manouvers in traffic, NO WORRIES MON, 10 over on the highway, might as well have been punching babies. The worst part is how many morons have fallen for the speed kills idiocy.
Lighten up Francis.....

I do know the reference from Family Guy however.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um815yLIEsQ

Yes, it is.  You don't spend a lot of time around people in their mid 20s, do you?   ;D

It's also in very poor taste for a cross-word puzzle.

Beats me.  Any reference to chloroform in my life has been cartoons and spy movies.   ;D  Or in the Naked Gun when he used chloroform to steal someone's clothes.   :rofl2:
And no...I do my best to avoid people in the 20s as I have zilch in common with them.

I lived on a huge lake sylvan beach always over 100 inches a year one year in 92 it was over 200 inches. My Miata was covered in snow.
I drive my NC Miata year round including the snow. Four snow tires and four summer tires work great!! Also drove my NA the same as well!!

What are you talking about...of course they save lives!
http://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/woman-gets-two-speeding-tickets-in-10-seconds/ar-AAshqXh?li=AAggFp5
She asks if such a system is really effective in stopping speeding, and Gary Shimko, the city's executive director of traffic safety, says the answer is yes.

He says there has been a 60 per cent reduction in injuries over the last 10 years.

Certainly if Gary Shitmko says it's true, it's true. (60% eh...astonishing figures no doubt  ::) :P)

Not sure what's the irritation here...200" of snow? Having to drive a Miata in the snow?  That you have to strap all 8 tires on the car to drive it in the snow?

Oh, I got one, for reals...the amount of permission slips you have to sign at schools nowadays.  Want to play basketball?  Need permission slip.  Chess team? Permission slip (ok, I'm just stabbing on that one), but any sport, need a slip (and $35-60 too, please); Take a car to school? Slip. Picking up a friend along the way? Yup...need school permission. Want to take your car to the store to buy a Gatorade at lunch? What? Another slip!? FFS...WTF is wrong with the world today.  Granted I'm a long way from high school, but really...you arrived at school...you played sports...you left at lunch...hell if they saw some of the things we did at lunch when I was in school... ;) ;D
eg. passenger van full of 8 guys ripping hell on the dike* just outside school grounds, rally driving like a bunch of 17 yr old retards...

We never got permission to do that shi#.  ;D

* dike https://www.google.ca/search?q=Dictionary#dobs=dike

lmao AB... there goes my day... :rofl2:

Not sure how old you are, but permission slips for sports is pretty normal.   Over 30 years, as far as I know.

I recall the only permission slips I had in grade school were for field trips.

i'm the same... i think assuming it's a "rape joke" is being too sensitive... maybe it's a "kidnapping joke"... or a "mugging joke"... or a "late night art theft joke"...

it has always been one of those "jokey" pick up lines... only huff post would have readership that would complain about that.

Had the pleasure of driving behind this bro-truck yesterday.
Gots two huge stacks in the bed & rolled the Cummins coal at every opportunity.  And on at least 20" wheels, naturally.

Good thing I was in the CX-5.  It it was MX-5 i'd still be blowing soot out my nose this morning.

^^^  I'd sure like to see the police crack down on crap like that.  Or is it even illegal?  Follow the guy home and set his truck on fire.  NOW IT'S SMOKING!

you act like the latter is a rare occurrence.... my lord... i see that more than daily. so frustrating to see... especially after you hear about how many fires are started during heat waves and drought due to that practice.

A shocking amount of BC burned this summer thanks to careless acts - including cigarette butt tossing.
