Both vehicles need fuel but weather affecting why they do. Why? COLD! lol. So, I need to drive the girls to get S.I.N.'s and was going to do so today. Both vehicles are low enough a two way trip to Orangeville isn't in the cards. Yesterday was colder than today so, nope. Today is -23C so, nope, I'll do the trip Thursday. heh. "Only" -13C tomorrow and middle daughter has an appointment down there so I guess compromise is in order and fuel up tomorrow.

Yup, I check the weather to decide when to get gas. Haha. :rofl2:

Van needs a fill; up before the 26th which is a Sunday and I don't fill up on weekends so needs to get filled by the 24th so I will wait for it to get milder before filling it. Advantage of being old and retired. lol. :rofl2:

But it does make me chuckle when I realise I actually actively do the above.

BMWs decision to not include a dip stick.

The X3 seems to have an intermittent low oil warning. The internet suggests it's likely a sensor but I'd like to be able to confirm the oil level is fine.

So you can check it by pressing the trip meter select button.

Oil

So we're good, right?

Makes a dealer visit mandatory.  I don't get it.  What purpose does eliminating the simple and inexpensive dipstick serve?

I've had literally zero instances of errors or problems with the electronic oil monitor on the e90.

I check it every so often on long drives because I get bored (!"§$% still 210km to destination?! Are we there yet ARGH ?! *clicks stalk*)

Another oddity. The auxiliary input for the stereo is at the back of the centre console, facing the rear seats. So you have to route the cable to the front seats. Makes no sense.

German engineer:. Fine, we will give you an input. But it will go here, so you can see how wrong you are.

Reminds me of their half assed cup holders.

It sure does drive nice though. That I6 is a gem.

Stupid heart irritating me this week. trying to rewire my sim racing pedals today but just too tired to concentrate. New meds I think is the most of it. Just things aren't quite right. Chest is tight, can't breath right. Wife was upset enough to phone a friend to see about taking me to the hospital after dinner. Then she threatened 911. Luckily it's eased off a bit. I'll make a call to the heart Dr's tomorrow but don't have time this week for bloody 911 calls, etc as I have a few things I need to get dome for the kids while they're home for March break.

Breathing is better now too so hoping. I think it's side effects and am just grumpy as I think I've spent more time sick from the meds than from the heart failure!  :rofl2:

grumble, grumble, grumble..............

It is half-assed.

The LCI X3 (E83) smooth out a lot of the rough edges of the initial version, the one I owned. But there are certain things you can't change, and the awkward items you're noting are those.

Shoehorning the N52 and the 6-speed auto caused a LOT of problems the first couple years in 2007-2008 with undesirable shifting characteristics. The old, pixellated board computer was never intended to display oil level, as the M54 engines had a dipstick. The AUX input was never originally part of the X3; the accessory add-on was routed to the glovebox.

But at heart the E83 X3 is a brilliant vehicle. I remember plowing thru snow the height of its upper bumper lip with snow tires, no issues. And the xDrive and DSC allow a fair bit of slip, so tail-out antics are very easy to accomplished, very balanced.

What year is this X3 and that it doesn't have Bluetooth standard?

Speaking of Bluetooth, I haven't been able to link my phone with the car yet.  I've made a few tries.

The kid got me a cool bluetooth device that plugs into the old stereo in the HL and my phone just pairs when I hop in and then I can play music from it, never taking my phone out of my pocket.  BUT, for some reason, it streams ALL my songs, not just the downloaded ones.  I've turned the cell setting off in the music settings, etc, etc, and even gone to talk to an Apple Moron and can't seem to stop it.  So I stream 18.000 songs via LTE.

That's completely unremarkable.  My $500 Forester does the same thing.  Not only that, but I stopped in the middle of doing so...and was able to start up again with little worry.

What if you make a play list?

I had problems with the blackberry with the Mazda, but the Samsungs seem to do better.

What if you make a play list?

That works - but I want to just get in the car and start playing music without mucking about with the phone - accessing the playlist, etc.  If I do that, it just streams my entire library.
