There is nowhere left in town to get an old fashioned "diner" style hamburger and fries for lunch.  :(

Probably closest thing would be AJ's over on the west side.

I miss Reggie's  :'(

Too damn nice outside.  Should get into landscaping/lawn cutting.  Maybe counting blades of grass.

^ That.
Was out at lunch.  Damn near perfect outside imo.  Sunny, 27 degrees & light breeze.

Still a few places around Moncton - Homestead, Steve's, Jean's.  But pricing has certainly crept up, negating some of the appeal.

If I am travelling within Atlantic Canada, I still enjoy a meal at a Big Stop.

I really enjoyed the bagel burgers at Reggie's.  Take a bagel, throw it on the flat top along with the burger and the onions, then it gets a nice fried grease layer, it was awesome.

Yep, it's throwing the bun/bagel whatever on the flat top grill that makes a diner burger so good. That hot crispy glazed bun that comes from the grease....Mmmmm!

....and regular condiments like mustard, relish, fried onions, ketchup etc etc.....none of this frou-frou garlic aioli, tomato basil chutney stuff.

Well, to each his own but not in my book. There is a so called "gastropub" in the KV called the Barrelhead. There is virtually nothing on the menu I would want to eat.

See....there's another "little thing that irritates me"....Gastropubs  ;D

One cannot get to be my size by discriminating when it comes to food  ;D

So, like Oliver, I enjoy both.

I guess I won't be inviting you there for beers and lunch then, eh?   ;D

But to each their own is right.  I like both, but 9.9 times out of 10 I'll take some great "Gastropub" food over some ridiculously greasy spoon place.  I'll do a diner type place for a breakfast, but never found lunch or supper meals to be anything close to good.  Personally, I hated Reggies........but really enjoy Carmens.

Same here.  I like a burger as much as the next guy.  Maybe more (have gut to prove it!).  I'll eat both types.

But at a higher quality joint than a greasy spoon, I can certainly taste the difference.  Normal bun vs. Potato bun? Potato bun.  Cheap bacon vs. Apple Smoke bacon?  Apple smoked.  Plain ground beef vs chuck/sirloin/brisket mix?  I'll take the mix.  My only gripe is some of these places think they are serving you a burger made of gold.  $15-$20 is crazy even with premium ingredients.

Looks like there's a place in SJ called "Burgerology".  Have you been there?

Yea, we've been slow here at work.  It happens from time to time.  So they call me up and say "You can come in for 8 hours and sit around or stay home".  So I stay home.  Yea, missing the pay sucks....but I just can't sit around at work for 8 hours and do nothing.  Seems though my co-workers can.   :rofl2:

I'm confused.  If you go into work, but you're not busy, then you don't get paid?

No....if I go into work and I'm not busy, I get to sit around for 8 hours and get paid.  To do nothing.

But that's far to boring for me...so I stay home and don't get paid.

Damn cost of living in Banff.  A friend of mine has a friend that is renting out a room in her house.  It's a basement suite with it's own bath and living room, and at $750, that's a SCREAMING deal.

Ugh.

Yep, completely agree.  Even simple things like fries in a good quality gastropub make all the difference.  Nothing like fresh cut fries compared to frozen ones.  As for prices, yeah I agree it can get pricey for a good burger at a gastropub.  But most folks don't realize that the higher priced ingredients, higher overhead, higher paid trained kitchen staff all go into the price.

I'd argue that it cost no more in general overhead and no more in training to make a burger with good vs premium ingredients.  The only additional cost will be ingredients.  Which still doesn't turn a $6 burger into a $20 burger.

FFS...it's just a burger...I didn't have to learn any new technique when I started making "premium" burgers.

That's like saying you need special training to make a grill cheese with french bread and gruyere instead of Wonder Bread and Kraft singles.
