Yep.  It's what I've done to mitigate losses on purchased cars.  Research which ones are going up...or will remain strong.  My 911s, obviously both went up.  Supra too.  Even the values of used LS430s have climbed (the 2004-2006 models).

Yeah, I've been watching the GX470s to see when they bottom out.  In Alberta, they're not there yet thanks to SUV love here, but they're not far off.

Okay, so at the current exchange that puts that particular car at $16.6k Canadian before fees. This lines up with my estimate of being able to get between $10-12k CAD for my car as it sits, if I were to be interested in selling.

Thing that make mine desirable include the M117.968 Euro tune motor, non-cracked leather/dashboard, full options including the Becker Grand Prix audio, power reclining heated rear seats, full Zebrano burlwood, and Euro headlights. Mine has higher mileage, but extremely well documented service history.

his is taking into consideration about $1k worth of miscellaneous crap I need to do after I move houses later this month... the poor car has been sitting in my dad's garage unloved because I've been too busy shopping for shutters/furniture/security systems the last little bit.

Such a nice car!  I really think that this era represented the high water mark for Mercedes. My mom's last car was a nicely optioned 93 300E (W124 body) that she kept for 10 years without a single issue. Try doing that with what they are building today.

I know someone with an '08 E350 that has been pretty much trouble free.

Ha! I did remember the TDK cassettes. There are a few of those with mix-tapes in the glovebox. The telematics are up to date, though that isn't an MB-spec phone. The one for this car is currently not in it, but I'm trying to gut it and retrofit Bluetooth into the 1988 handset. Call me nuts - it'll likely become a winter project.

Oh, yes it's an Ontario car, and it passes emissions with flying colours. It's a 1988, so the first year it's mandatory.

My neighbour owned an '88 diesel S-class (300 SDL?? ) until last week. The car sat out in the open for 5 or 6 years before he decided to sell it and by that time it definitely looked somewhat the worse for wear. Believe it or not the damn thing fired right up after a simple oil change and not much more. He even took the buyer out for a road test that morning and by lunch time the car was gone. Bloody amazing :o.....
