Someone in the neighborhood has bought one of those horrid BMW ev SUV things.....it offends my eyes every time it passes my house lol

The iX or the XM? The uglier one, the XM, is actually not an EV... just a PHEV/hybrid. The iX is less offensive to me but is the full EV.

This thing, according to Google, its an XM, just dry heave, this is the paint scheme as well.

This validates the "lipstick on a pig" expression.  :-X

The XM is poorly reviewed too, though I think I saw a positive review of it recently.

The X5M is 10x more appealing IMO.

That face is a hate crime. BMW should be forced to recall and crush them.

Have seen this truck working three different sites in the past couple weeks. Truck looks to be a 1966 or earlier, and the rig on the back looks to be of similar vintage. Amazing and cool that this thing is still out there making money.

Can’t figure out what it’s doing, though. Drill rig? But it’s right in town, so not drilling for water. It’s been set up within meters of three big buildings: the condo in the photo, a hotel, and an apartment building. The apartments are under construction, but the hotel and condo are 5-10 years old. All are within the same general neighborhood.

After it left the hotel, I saw there was maybe an 18” length of pipe standing above ground where it had been working. Pipe looked to just have a grill covering the opening, but possibly it was a cap - didn’t get a close look.

Maybe they’re putting in open pipe for groundwater monitoring? Or radon gas venting? (don’t think that’s in issue here though.) Maybe I’ll catch the guy on his coffee break one day and I’ll ask him what’s up.

Looks exactly like an old water well driller. Not sure what else it could be. Almost always well drillers are old as dirt. Sold a 1967 Kenworth driller years and years ago to a guy out of High River AB. The rear mount auxiliary engine looked the same too.

That would be my guess as well.  Drilling wells in the mountain areas must be interesting.  Are wells common in that area?  I would assume they would have to go down quite a ways to hit an aquifer.   :-\  Cabinet maker for our new kitchen had to drill a new well last year and they had to go down 480' and cost him ~$30K.   :o

Could it be for a groundwater based heat pump?

Looks like one of those trucks you'd have a half jug of gas behind the seat to pour into the carb when it won't start right away

Oh, that’s a good guess. Could very well be.

All of these properties are right in town, so would be on town water and sewer. No need to be drilling a water well.

Oh, and the whole town is on a floodplain, so no trouble drilling a water well here if you wanted to. I’ve dug fence posts in my yard and hit water at three feet. Dunno about the geothermal stuff, but I guess you need to go down a lot deeper to get to warmer water?

Very cool, that's quite the tour!

Saw one those things working in sub zero conditions, a sight when you see the steam leaking everywhere

This is a 84 Ford that my roofer and immediate neighbour (behind me) is restoring.   He has 150 acres and a gun range.  Not that out of place because we are about a mile from an army base that routinely fires 50 cal and howitzers.

Notable is his choice of gear shift.

Cool, I dig the truck for sure, that shifter looks very awkward to actually use though. Mexican blanket seat covers and improvised wiring wrapped around the steering column give it good beater vibes.  8)
