Count me in the camp that likes the styling of the Disco Sport.  Maximum passenger and cargo space, with none of the frivolous styling of many of the other luxury CUVs.  And clean styling that will age very well (assuming the vehicle is on the road long enough for the styling to actually "age"....)

But  JLR hasn't exactly sold the vehicles based on practicality and clean styling...so who knows how this thing will go over in the marketplace.  Plus I've seen no marketing support for it since its arrival.

No matter how much I liked a JLR vehicle though (and I do LOVE me some F-type coupe!!), I just wouldn't be able to pull the trigger on one if planning on keeping it long term.  JLR needs to introduce a mega-warranty - how about 6 years bumper to bumper, and 10 years on electronics  ;D  Of course that would probably bankrupt them!

Actually, there was one little bug that I noticed when I drove it for the first time shortly after she got it.  Driving it in traffic, I noticed the stop/start feature wasn't working.  So after diving into a MFD menu, noticed that there was a warning about the hood being open.  I found a place to pull over, and checked the hood.  It was completely closed and securely latched.  Nonetheless, I released the hood latch, opened it and closed it again.  That cleared the warning, and the Stop/start functioned as normal.  So, chalk it up to a weird electronic gremlin.  To my knowledge though, she hasn't had any issues with anything since then.

I like the exterior styling and the no nonsense straight forward dash design.  Quite refreshing actually.

Yes, I realize it's not an LR4, which is why I said I'd get an LR4 instead.

My point isn't that the LR4 is remotely equivalent to the Discovery Sport, but that the irrational appeal of Land Rover / Range Rover has a lot to do with them being real off road vehicles. The LR2, Evoque and Discovery Sport are all car-based CUVs, not much different than the ones that any other brand will sell you.

I know it is silly given how little use these systems get in the real world, but I still can't get over a Land Rover that isn't a true off-road vehicle with a low range transmission, etc., and which uses essentially the same platform as the Volvo S80. I'd get a used LR4 instead.

This is a CR-V/Rav4/Ford Escape with a fancy badge....this isn't the LR4

i don't mind these...i think they look fairly decent where some brands make swoopy things just for the sake of swoopiness (looking at you Murano)...it kind of looks like a better looking Outlander, which i've heard is also decent, but nobody buys Mits products.

I really like this SUV and seriously considering buying one at some point in the future. However, I would much prefer one of the new Ingenium engines - gas or diesel  (I heard the 2.0L diesel will come 2017 (?!)

A nicely equipped SE, which is what I would go for now that I have the confirmation that the seats are cloth/leather combination (my favorite) would run around $45K - $46K with HID, heated windshield and steering wheel, etc. With some decent discounting, it could drop below $40K which is not bad at all.

You are right on the first account - the front, especially the lower grill, is very similar to the original 2nd gen Outlander (and yes, the Outlander was/is a good car and yes, some people DO buy them for that reason ;)).

It needs a better engine...LR is still using the -now- outdated version of the 2.0 Ecoboost.

Seats are nice.  Stop/start is dismal.  Ruins the vehicle.

Not entirely the power train we get in North America (yet) but pretty impressive nevertheless:

THAT engine, which is new, featured in the video I linked seems to be all it needs. The thing is will we get it and when? I've heard 2017, but it seems like that would likely be the calendar 2017 as the MY2017 is out already with the original (old) powertrain.
