Can we please rename the thread to "It's a sign of things to come - House Edition"?

Also, that is ridiculous. I presume the photo makes it stand out more than in real life.  At least I hope that's the case.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

Indeed WTF ?!?!

Also, I wish you luck in your dealings with the builder in getting everything sorted out. Here in Ottawa I'm less than impressed with the "tract" builders, they all seem to have issues...

Yeah the photo does make it stand out. In person if you don't stand in the right spot you would not notice.

Oddly given that you all think I am OCD, it does not bother me much. But I am going to bring this up, because it is pretty damn sloppy.

I have attached another gem:

I shall not yet sully their name. They will have an opportunity to correct these things.

Looks like you had the dope-smoking-crew finish your house on a really hot Friday afternoon.   :P

Honestly, I've never heard of so many deficiencies.

You probably didn't look at new construction built during boom times in Alberta.  With good trades working the oil patch, the construction business got a lot of "leftovers" in terms of skill and work ethic.  Also, the companies were more concerned with making money and moving on than long term customer relations.  There's a LOT of shite in the province.

Ok, not very experience in this area, but on a scale of 1 to 10, how awful is this?

1 is ultimately minor, 5 is my Acura rattles like a mofo, 10 is "likely to have major structural defect inside 7 years"

1 is a rattly TL, 5 is a Volvo with a broken camera, 10 is Sailor's ML.

This makes me twitch.  Yeah, I'd be in jail.  New construction?  No thanks.

We put in a floor like that about 12 years ago. When it was first installed it looked like the grey stuff. It has now changed in colour to the brown lower stuff due to sun exposure. Underneath the area rugs it still looks grey/brown.

Perhaps one batch was exposed to light?

Usually trades who know what the are doing will open a couple of boxes at a time and mix up the product
Bricklayers will also do this with cubes of bricks

I'd make them fix that one... let them suffer from trying to sand off that prefinished coating & going thru a lot of belts     Only issue afterwards is the finish they put on won't have the same durability as the prefinished one that's baked on in the factory   :-\

Wouldn't it be easier to just replace the offending planks?

Depending on how big the room is it might be easier to just refinish them.  Plus, they will have to make sure the new flooring matches.  Something they clearly struggle with.
