I spoke to this guy briefly today.  http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Lexus/LS/LONDON/Ontario/19_9178153_/?showcpo=ShowCPO&orup=15_100_40

He said he bought an E-Class MB.  He then said he wasn't sure he made the right choice, as the Lexus rides better and feels like a better car.

Never understood why people provide so little information and pics in their ads...

Not everyone is a salesman I guess.  Beats me.  The worst are the people without even a picture!!

Those can the be ones you can scoop up for a steal if you can find them.

even better when they list the car with the wrong title or something.

AP - yes.

Hey someone should buy this car.

That's not a lot of miles for all those years.

I sold my last GS400 with 425,000kms on the clock.  These powertrains are bullet proof.

Jaeger - Was the particular 600hl you tested the one the link earlier in this thread?

Yes, it was.  (His internet isn't working ATM, so that's why I answered.)

I think he was just too mellow to type after the test drive. Figure his daughter typed for him  ;)

No kidding. Same kms my 09 Sonata had when I traded it a year ago. It would have about 167k by now if I'd kept it.

Lol - it does have a mellowing effect.  Frankly, I think most people would benefit from a car that calmed them the fack down versus making their blood boil. I know I would.  I have no doubt I could live quite happily with the right LS.

Looking forward to seeing what kind of a different experience the GS provides.  Pretty much have to abandon the V8 concept (just too few around).  But on the other hand, I could get a 2013 GS for 2011 LS money.  We shall see.  The interiors are so next-level awesome from 2013 onwards.

Interesting sidenote - when the guy asked what else I was considering, I mentioned the new Genesis and he just went on and on about what a good car it is and how most people can't even believe it's a Hyundai when they drive one.  :rofl2:  Driving the Genesis back to back with the LS might prove to be quite interesting.  And I tell you what - in a couple years when there are a lot more 2015 / 2016 Genesis sedans on the used market they will make one heck of a good buy.

So is is consensus position that the ES would be penny wise but pound foolish. They are certainly less costly. But are they really just a glorified Avalon?

http://m.autotrader.ca/a/5_27060163?mnclk=1&ursrc=mhl&upsp=2&upsc=0&orup=122_10_248

ES is a really good car no doubt, but looking over all the models at the dealership yesterday it was the one that presented like a Toyota in a tux.  Not bad in any way, but somehow less special.  There's no remote Toyota equivalent for the likes of the IS, GS and LS.  Unless you are blinded by branding I don't know you can make the case that the ES is better than an Avalon save that it probably has a nicer interior and does have a better warranty and nicer dealership with more posh service.

Doesn't mean that you are foolish to buy an ES if you are an Avalon-intender - just consider whether the premium is worth it to you.

Plus if you want a RWD platform, the ES is only FWD.

Yep. It's a nice car but FWD only. If considering a used/certified ES, I would also check out the GS/IS.

Well AP, the GS is one sweet ride.

I'll get the negatives out of the way first:

1) Back seat is okay for room but actually less than my Sonata.  Perhaps not a negative per se - as it is quite comfortable for two adults - just not spaciously so.  More like it is not a strength.
2) Tiny trunk IS a negative.  No way I could haul 4 adults AND 10 days worth of luggage for an east coast road trip as I quite easily did in my Sonata.  Rear seats do not fold down so I can fuhggedaboud stuffing my bike in the back.
3) That predator grille still doesn't float my boat, but the 2013 version is positively tame as compared with the 2016 version.

The good stuff?  Everything else.

The car presents VERY compelling blend of sport and luxury. Much more responsive and light on its feet than the LS.  Still a comfortable smooth-riding car in normal mode, but twist dial to SPORT PLUS and things tighten up significantly.

While down on cylinders and power to the LS it feels quicker - which is mostly down to deceptive effortlessness with which its big brother gathers speed.  And that V6 makes VERY pleasing sounds in the upper revs - which adds to the appealing dual personality of the vehicle.

The interior is absolutely stunning, IMO.  While the LS is more old-school luxury, the GS interior is very techy and contemporary and I LOVE the super-wiiiide split-screen display.  I love the fiddly mouse controller for inputs a good deal less.  I expect I'd get used to it, but I found it a challenge to use while parked and not at all a good idea to use while driving.

Very tough call between the two as they are very different.  The GS doesn't have that velvet bank vault feel of the LS and isn't library-quiet inside.  Its seats are very good indeed - but the LS thrones are excellent. Comparably priced, I'd be looking at a 2011 LS and a 2013 GS - so definitely newer and likely less mileage if I go with the latter.

Then there's the fact that when I think about it, the Genesis arguably splits the difference between the two.  So decisions?  No, not yet.

Love the interior colours Lexus offers in the GS...

So are you really thinking about pulling the trigger on a new ride? Or just looking around?
I love it when a plan comes together.

Too much work involved chasing used cars all over the GTA just to look around. Haven't settled on buying used versus new, but if it's used it will be a Lexus GS or LS. I'd say I'm leaning toward going the used route for the first time.

^^^ That, plus my wife loved the look of the LS but did not love the GS at all.  ;D

The LS is kind of in a class of one among the vehicles I am considering. Plus if I am ever going to own a V8 awd luxury sedan it's probably now.
