Here's the 460 AWD:

It sure looks clean.

Were you looking for AWD specifically?

Not an absolute must but nice to have and I'm leaning that way if I go for a 460 instead of a 430.  There are a lot more RWD 460s out there and usually at better prices.  I will be driving one at the same dealer that has the 600hl tomorrow - though that particular example is priced kinda high.

Did you drive a 430 already?

It'll be interesting to hear your thoughts on all the different models

^^^ yep, I like the look. I may be wrong, but I think the true sport package is on RWD only.

Nope haven't tried a 430. Stupidly didn't drive Ron's when he was in town. And they are harder to find.

Holy crap, I had no idea those things were a buck and a half new!  :o :o :o
for all the mud thrown at Kia/Hyundai for their resale values, i would have thought this Lexus would have held its own better than that...it's lost about 75% of its value after about 6-7 years.

It happens to several high dollar mainstream cars....my 911 was the same.

BTW..have you checked prices on 2011 Equus lately?   :rofl2:

Both of them??!

From this:

First dibs at buying it? ;)

Official noted:  You have first dibs.  Getting ready to replace the shocks with traditional ones...just because.  And will likely ad the other "Sport" bits too so I have the best of both worlds.

To a Battle Royale? No fair!  >:(

 :rofl2:

 :shuffle:

I guess you also didn't sell Shane your GS even when he wanted it,  hmm :stick:  :(

That's a cheap shot.  Funny...but cheap.   ;D

There were other reasons I didn't sell the GS to Shane.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

^^Stop it. I'm a 26 year old bachelor that wants an old grandpa Lexus. Theres something wrong with me.

My son bought a 2009 Genesis Sedan at age 20, so you're in good company. Then his young brain kicked back in and he replaced it with a screaming red 2013 Genesis Coupe. He tells me that his favourite car at the recent Calgary new car show was a Volvo wagon! So, either he's changed his mind again, or he's just messing with me.  ??? ??? ::)

Sport tuned suspension (different shocks, springs and sway bars) with 18" wheels was a mere $220 option.

Wheels look great on the car!!  Dealers sold the wheels separately as an option.  I've only seen one true Sport Optioned car.

Those look very similar to the AMG 5 spokes Mercedes put on early 2000s CLK 430s.

You can get a GS430 for around 6-8k in good shape too.  It's no LS but still a great car

Not a 2006+ one you can't.  The older 1998-2005 you sure can.

The 2006 GS430 is also a great car.  First real showing of the F-Finesse styling.

I personally like the styling of the 2006+ GS and would happily own one, but most enthusiasts around Calgary seem to want the previous gen for it's driving dynamics. There are a ton of 1998-2005s around here (mostly black), some very stock, but many heavily modified.

Most people with the previous gen GS want it because the twin turbo I6 (as found in the Supra) is an easy swap from the JDM Aristo Turbo (GS Turbo).  Then they merely put a big turbo on it..and away they go...

At home recovering from surgery.  With nothing to do, I figured I would shop for a new (used) car

Compare these two listings.  A 2011 460 is the same price (more or less) as the 2008 600hl.  Is that 600hl truly that much better?

Jaeger was test driving that LS600 today.  I'm sure he'll be around to relay his drive impressions.

I personally think the LS600h is worth.  The torque thrust on it is amazing.  But you'd probably want a warranty as the hybrid parts are expensive.

Okay - I'll be short and punchy.  Facking home desktop won't connect to WiFi so I interrupted my daughter's history assignment to borrow her laptop.

A few thoughts on the LS 460 AWD

- Seerenity now.
- A true gentleman's express. Powerful, confident and  sure of itself without the need to boast. No pathetic overcompensating BS here. If Trump were a car, he would not be this car.
- Builds speed so silently and effortlessly.
- Materials are not only high quality but all colour and textures seem to blend into a soothing harmonious whole.
- It's hard to build up a decent case of road rage driving an LS.
- Seats are wonderfully supportive but also soft and cushy.
- ALL controls are intuitive and easy to use thanks to a wonderfully designed touch screen.
- Engine sounds great near redline - wish I could hear it more at other times.  Wish I could see it at any time.
- Ride is very smooth and silky, but not floaty.  Composed is how I would describe it.  Try to pitch it around and you feel the mass but the grip exceeds anything you would need driving a car like this on city streets.

LS 600 HL

- I wish I could express just what a ridiculous amount of rear seat legroom this thing has.  And it hides its extra length well.  Hard to spot at a glance nd distinguish from the standard model.
- the interplay of electric motor, big V8 and CVT is amazingly seamless.
- off the line it doesn't feel any stronger than the regular V8 - but once moving holy hell does it pull.  100 to roadside suspension and confiscation happens VERY quickly.
- The model I tested was a mess inside and the suspension felt worn out.  Disappointing.  Same mileage as the AWD I tested yesterday.  Does the significant extra weight take a toll?
- Never got a straight answer on the extened warranty coverage for the battery - which I took as a no.

RWD

Turned out to be AWD, so... no comment there.

Looking at some 2013 GS 350 AWD models on Saturday.  The interior of those things is soooooo freaking nice I may just be able to overlook the absurd fang face.

^^Pretty good summation.

Shame, shame, shame about the poor condition the car was in for your test drive.  Glad it was you testing and not me...I would have pitched a fit to the dealer manager.

Jaeger - Was the particular 600hl you tested the one the link earlier in this thread?

Yes, it was.  (His internet isn't working ATM, so that's why I answered.)
