looks like all the others

does nothing for me

but I am sure it would be a very competent all-weather baby stroller

give me my wagon, does everything better
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I think this generation is a giant step forward in styling and interior.  The last one had excellent engine choices and drove like a car but it looked horrible and the interior did not match it's price tag.

I expect BMW to sell a bunch of these.  I'd like to see a comparo between this and the X3 to see if the added expense is worth upgrading to the bigger vehicle.

Completely agree, the previous X1 looks way less upscale than this.  Probably not the correct word...it's not like this one looks expensivee and the old one looked cheap....it was just....less grown-up?

Not sure if I'd buy one, just because I can't see spending that much $$$ when I replace my 3er, but I think this appeals to me more than an X3.

I have to admit, I do like this car almost as much as the wagon. This is going to be a big seller for BMW.

I prefer wagons too but the seating height and ground clearance of the X1 are advantages for some people.

I really like the styling of this vehicle though I feel it has lost a bit of the character that the original one had. The old one was basically a lifted E91 with the bonus of offering the turbo I6. I thought they looked pretty good with the M Sport package:

I read somewhere that the new XI has an option to get regular tires and a spare instead of RFT's. Have not been able to find proof of that on BMW's web site. Maybe only offered in USA.

If true if it removes one major peeve I have with BMW and maybe will hep addresse the ride issue.
If you want more in life you have to make an effort.

Decided to build one....click M Sport Line ($2500) and it tells me that you MUST pick Premium Package Essential ($3K) or PP Enhanced ($5K). Grrrr.

Anyone notice this new generation X1 has its engine transverse mounted?  So this must be sharing a platform with mini.  That would explain why the I6 is no longer available.

You mean Sport (not M Sport) and Premium Package (instead of performance).  :)

This is indeed built on the Mini platform. It has become a FWD biased car. The shift to a transversely mounted engine has gained abundance of passenger and cargo space compared to the original. I am 6'3" and felt very comfortable sitting behind the driver's seat adjusted for my size.

Yep based on mini platform. Hopefully does not come with mini rattles, build quality and reliability issues. Not sure I would jump on board with 1st year production until all the gremlins showup and get addressed.

Oh, absolutely.  It certainly has way more interior room due to the packaging afforded by a transverse platform.

I did mean M Sport Line but stated the wrong price which s/b $2500.  And yes, I should have typed Premium not Performance.  I'll fix my original post.

The few people that really do care will cough up the extra $10K for the 3-wagon. Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with this setup.

Sadly yes. But for the targeted buyers, that will not make a difference. They will lease boatloads of these.

Oh I'm not doubting that. All that counts for 90% of the I leased my BMW types is that they have a "BMW" and their neighbor has a Kia so they are better. With the amount of X3 and X5s I see around town, BMW is no longer that enthusiast company I grew up worshipping with an enthusiast owner base, now its just another "premium" brand, sad really.

Sadly, you do not make boatloads of money by being an enthusiasts' brand these days.

I wouldn't mind downsizing to an X3, but an X1 would be too small for me in the cargo area.
