I never had much respect for most service industries, be it automotive, HVAC, appliance repair, or what have you.

There is a reason why most of them have a bad reputation.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

The honest "trades people" do deserve respect, it's just unfortunate that a lot of times the "industry" they're representing is full of other dis-honest individuals.

Yeah but thats the case for all industries, hell, I've met some lawyers who didn't make me wish for them to play in traffic.....To basically say that anyone in a skilled trade is a piece of crap is a pretty piece of $hit thing to say.

Most lawyers are like that, right No-san!?!?

The best part is how they disagree with each other!!  I dated one about 5-6yrs ago (when I first broke up with the Mrs.) and I called her out on it!  I asked her if when she was in law school, the profs told them all to look around the room at all the other students & then informed them that they won't agree with anyone in that room ever again in their career's!  :rofl2:  She explained it as a matter of interpretation, 1 lawyer reads it 1 way, the other a different way, hence the need to change the documentation... and of course bill for that time  :o

I've run into far more douchbag engineers than I have tradespeople.

no matter the industry, assholes are assholes. some jobs there is a higher % that are jerks, but no real rule, and no matter what the likelihood of running into an idiot, you should never just assume the worst... that is a sure fire way for a self fulfilling prophesy...

anywho... if i tell anyone who drove a trade in (lady, old man, monkey in a hat, etc.) it's more to show i know the car better than the guy at the "value" lot with 700 cars will know his... the more you know and all that. not that they should assume anything about the previous driver... i can't very well ask someone not to pre-judge me, yet to stereotype the previous owner.
