I'm surprised it's that low for the BRZ and WRX.  Huh.  No surprise for the Forester/OBW/Legacy - older buyers compared to the hot-rod models.

The BRZ I understand. There's a notable amount of older (retirement age) women in my area driving around in BRZs, and I bet most of them are auto.

According to Wards Automotive, these are the manual transmission "take rates" for model year 2015 in the U.S. (the most recent figures available), for the vehicles mentioned in this thread:

Ford Fiesta - 20.0%
Jaguar F-Type - nil
Mazda MX-5 - 49.0%
Porsche 911 - 46.3%
Scion FR-S - 41.6%
Subaru BRZ - 35.5%
Subaru Impreza - 25.0%
Forester - 2.0%
Subaru Legacy - nil
Subaru Outback - nil
Subaru WRX - 62.0%
Subaru XV Crosstrek - 3.0%
VW Golf - 27.9%
VW GTI - 22.6%
VW Passat - 14.2%

The highest take rate is for the Dodge Viper at 100.0%.

I don't know of any similar source for Canadian stats/sales breakdown.

Well there was no manual F-type for 2016 so that makes sense. The Porsche 911 number sounds very wrong though. Manuals are quite hard to find; some dealers don't stock them at all.

Maybe they get snapped up as soon as they arrive on the lot. Or everyone just has the patience to factory order them.

Nice! Good work!

I'm kind of surprised the Passat is as high as it is.

Do they list only certain models?  Many people that get manuals are subcompacts and compacts, but few are listed avbove...

Exactly.

I can't say if they have every single model, but I assume they do.  It's a paid subscription service so I can't re-post the whole thing here, but if you have a particular model in mind, I could look it up.

Interesting. The two MX-5s Kelowna Mazda had in the showroom were both manual.

The Guelph dealer where I bought mine had 2, both manuals.
When I was shopping around at other nearby dealers in Kitchener & Waterloo, it was about a 50/50 split

Wow, that's even lower than I expected. Thanks!

In 2011, when my dad bought his Corolla, the local dealer had 4 or 5 stickshift Corollas on the lot (same trim level, with different colours). Must have been a rare incident.

Easy way to become the 1% though  ;D

Kelowna Toyota has two Corolla S manuals in stock. I want to test it out as I have a burning curiosity as to whether or not Toyota improved the stick shift or not. Because the stick shift in my old 08 frankly sucked.

The MX5 really surprised me!  I figured it would be around 75%. I see very few autos around.

Thanks for the offer.

Depending on the car, sometimes a manual is a killer in that nukes your ability to resell.  Sometimes a manual is a big winner - Miata.
