Manual take rate stats
« on: January 27, 2016, 10:02:59 pm »
Post some manual take rates when you find them!

Found this for Subaru in Canada:

10% - Outback, Legacy, Forester
15% - Crosstrek
20% - Impreza
80% - BRZ
85% - WRX

Higher than I expected! There's hope yet (until self-driving cars become a thing)
Disappointed with 15% of the WRX drivers though :stick:

I'm surprised it's that low for the BRZ and WRX.  Huh.  No surprise for the Forester/OBW/Legacy - older buyers compared to the hot-rod models.

Many 911 owners I met were too weak to shift on their own anyway.   ;D

The PDK is REALLY good too though.

The BRZ I understand. There's a notable amount of older (retirement age) women in my area driving around in BRZs, and I bet most of them are auto.

For VW, apparently GTI and Golf R are 50%. (And I'm doing my part!)

Found it interesting that Scion FR-S is only 70% vs. BRZ's 90%.

Globally it's even less than that.

The Mazda 5 was about 10-15% back in 2009.

Ford Fiesta was about 23% when it first came out.

Along with Lamborghini.

I wonder what the take rate it is on the ATS and F-type.

F-Type would heavily favor auto.  Manual F-Type is too new IMO.

No surprise for the Forester/OBW/Legacy - older buyers compared to the hot-rod models.

Sure, those vehicles don't lend themselves to the typical M/T crowd, but the stats are disingenuous.  Most Subaru dealers don't carry Forester/OBW/Legacy in manual.  Maybe it's because they refuse to order them in, or maybe it's because Subaru doesn't allocate many M/T models to North America.

I'm actually surprised that the M/T rate would be 10% for those vehicles, considering how difficult it was to find one when I was shopping.

If I recall correctly, I think I read the expected manual take rate on the MX-5 is around 30% - 35% -- so, yeah roughly 2/3'rds automatic.
I did my part for the manual side.

Read another article somewhere earlier  - around 5% of new car sales are manuals

For the Miata?!? Wow, that's depressing.  :(

I'm guessing the Passat is somewhere around 33-50%. Because I have a manual and the other one or two they sold were likely automatics.  ;D

Interesting. The two MX-5s Kelowna Mazda had in the showroom were both manual.

Hard to find numbers are on this.  Most of the ones I see are manuals.  In Autotrader, it's about 50% auto.  But you can just go by that...

I know at least two co-workers with manual Outbacks, and Subie always has one on display at the Montreal Auto Show. Ditto Forester.
