The Kia CUV comparison is just plain silly. The reality is nothing for the price tackles interstates and offers the opportunity for occasional suburban drifting tomfoolery as well as a V6 Charger. You’ve gotta drive one in its natural, aforementioned habitat. I had the chance to rent one down in the States last month and it was fantastic. It was definitely a base model, but it was perfect for its intended purpose. These post-facelift versions should depreciate nicely and be a heck of a used buy in a year or two.

buy used!...depreciation is huge on these, no reason why one should buy a new one.

I like these, but the Dodge nameplate just doesn't do it for me...Out of the LX cars, I'd rather have a 300....if only it was built by a different manufacturer!

I like the 300 and love the Challenger.  The styling of the Charger has not really resonated with me.

I like the front end and I think the back end looks great. What kills it for me is the door handles. They look cheap (like out of the '80s or something) and I really dislike the popular thing that everyone does now where the rear door handle is much higher than the front one.

I had not noticed the door handle thing.  Now it is going to torment me.  Thanks a lot.

You're welcome.  ;D

My wife and I owned a 2010 Dodge Charger SXT with the older 3.5L V-6.  Put over 70,000 trouble free miles on it.  The only maintenance we had to do to the vehicle other than oil changes was a new set of tires at 45,000 miles.

Traded it on a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk a few weeks ago.

Like any vehicle today, if you take reasonable care of it, it will provide you with years of trouble-free service.

^ good for you! I had 2 FCA products and both make the list as the worst vehicles I have ever had. So yeah, no reason for me to spend my hard earned money on one.

$48k all in for the Charger in this article. I'd take an SHO or Genesis Sedan all day every day over this thing. Nice as it is.
I'd take a used Genesis Sedan, or used Lexus GS or LS.

For $48K I'd take the Charger RT Scat Pack.  With the 6.4 L 485 HP Hemi it makes the above choices look rather dull.

that's fair. thanks for the note. but when doing things like trying to bash the fuel economy of the charger, rather than emphasize that the exhaust note of the maxima is nicer, maybe mention something like, "obviously with awd, we expect the fuel numbers to favour the fwd maxima". i'm ok with the comparison, but not much was made of the fact that it's segment (nearly) exclusive features of big v8's and (separately) awd. i

Agreed.  Seems like the 3 star fuel economy ratings in this article is a little unfair, and completely comparing apples to oranges.

I want to like the "family guy" Chargers, but a Lexus ES350 is actually cheaper than the featured car. One has to go real easy on the option list for these to make sense.

Haven driven (rental) Chargers a couple of times I can say the review of the car is spot on.

The engine-transmission match is top notch and the 8-speed is fabulous. For someone having driving enjoyment on top of his list of priorities I can hardly see how a FWD-CVT would be a match to the Charger. Also I read some reviews stating the Altima has actually more interior space than the Maxima  and if it is still true after the last redesign then this comparison is a bit off on this aspect too.

(i'm sure it's just my bias selling these things!)

rwd starting point is tricky when comparing... like you had said, fwd and awd can be compared... but rwd and fwd rarely would be cross-shopped... so fca is at a disadvantage from the get go in canada when it will take the upgraded awd option to even make someone look at the charger when comparing say the maxima at the base level.

i'll need to take a look at the impala... a much larger trunk and more rear seat space is hard to fathom after being in a charger!

You have looked at the specs right?  The rear seat legroom and trunk of the Impala is only slightly bigger.

Yep, soon you'll be trained not to think for yourself and ignore any information you have that doesn't match commonly held perceptions.
