With Cars like the Spark, Micra and others priced in the $9995 to $15000 CAD range, how does MB/Smart actually sell any Smarts with a starting price of $17,300?

Thats what I don't get about the Smart, it can't haul groceries, 4 people or go on long highway trips......what the hell is the attraction?? When I hear ease of parking, if you can't handle a Micra, stop driving.

i'm telling ya,   the new smart is :  Rear Engine, RWD, Turbo Charged, Manual, 2 seater.

it's basically a Porsche~!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, and rubbing alcohol is basically Grey Goose...but its not.
Lighten up Francis.....

While on my lunch walk at the Eaton Centre, I saw a bit black box one day.  A couple of days later, I saw the exact green Spark in the middle of the mall.   It looked all right for a sub-$10K car.  I didn't bother sitting in it after seeing how small the rear cargo area looked.  The front looked like it had decent amount room, though.

One complaint I kept hearing at the Auto show is that you can't get a car with crank windows and no a/c... A lot of people just want a low price, good fuel economy, doors and a roof. smart sales have tanked btw, hard. They're in the top-5 losers for 2015 in the US.

i would say, 90% of smart cars i see are purchased by small businesses and have advertising on them...since they are unique looking vehicles, people notice them, and in turn, your business name.

A $10K Spark makes A LOT of sense to me.  If I were a new grad starting out today and wanted a new car to get to work and home, this would be super tempting.  21yr olds can easily live with it's lack of features to get something cheap to buy and own.

Hell ya! Some might not like GM or even the car. But I love that they are offering such great pricing on a new car. Good on them!

I'd probably personally shell out an extra 1000 or so for either the Focus or Fiesta when they blow the base models out (happens semi regularly, and fiesta ends up starting slightly above 10k, and fiesta around 11.5k) but it's good to have options!

I wonder how the Spark compares to the Micra

That's the question. I drove the Mirage and the Micra and the Nissan felt like an amazing buy.  It feels and drives like cars costing a lot more.  I think right now it's one of the the best values Nissan or anyone sells.

I never drove the Mircra, but I drove the Versa Note for $1500 it was pretty good.  I see a potential comparo on the horizon!  I am sure the editors will fight for the keys to see who drives which car first.

At today's exchange rate this car is around $6800 US.  Way cheaper then the US version, about half the price.   I can't see they will keep this price long.  Same with Nissan.

I remember getting a C&D with the then new Miata on the cover with a price of $13xxx. I was a bit surprised when I saw the Canadian price some time later was near $19k.

I was hoping those days were long gone. :(

Was thinking about that earlier today.  Remembering the days when the dollar was close to parity, but cars here (especially Subaru) were priced significantly higher.  Importing cars from the US, was a hot topic.  I wonder how quickly the car manufacturers will adjust their prices.  Makes one think, maybe now is a good time to buy a car, before any adjustments are made...

I also think Americans are going to import cars from Canada given the exchange rate.

This is happening a lot, especially with used cars.
