$9995 For model that no one wants. Weird the base is offered in more Colours with a Manual. The same model then jumps almost 4 grand with a CVT and Aircon which comes standard, with less choice of Colours. I guess this is another Korean car that people put stickers on saying buy American...LOL.  Does look too bad.

The year is 2016.  The price is $9,995.  And the critique is...that only buys the base model without air conditioning.

"Ya, but you would be better off buying a pre-owned ________."  Regardless, you just can't go too wrong at the price point.  The price is in bus pass territory.
Thats what I don't get, you get a brand spanking new car you get to peel the plastic off the radio for for under $10k....yeah, it wont have S class levels of equipment but you also do not have to drive some clapped out POS or worse case, take the bus.

It's not a bad looking car now after the redesign.

Disposable. Glad to see GM get into this game, and better yet it actually does look like a solid entry.

I think the website is suggesting that those colours are only unavailable with a particular interior trim. I can build an LT with any of the 10 colours.

Have to agree there.  Compared to the base Micra, it's better equipped.  With the Bluetooth, and Chevy MyLink.  Looks better.  If you can drive stick, it's a great commuter car.  Great car for my wife for work, 20km away.  Even without A/C, she leaves work after 7:30pm, and starts at 7am.

Another good deal is the Cruze right now, 2016 Cruze Limited LT turbo.  $137 bi-weekly plus tax, 24 months, $0 down, 0% lease rate.

With Cars like the Spark, Micra and others priced in the $9995 to $15000 CAD range, how does MB/Smart actually sell any Smarts with a starting price of $17,300?

The car is $11,595 in fact. Which is almost as much as a not too used Lexus LS, which will obviously be bullet proof and run forever  :P

Thats what I don't get about the Smart, it can't haul groceries, 4 people or go on long highway trips......what the hell is the attraction?? When I hear ease of parking, if you can't handle a Micra, stop driving.

No one?   I've seen lots of Micras in base trim, no reason people would t want this too.  Choice is good.

Not everyone cares about AC ( especially here in the lower mainland) and you should never buy a subcompact with an automatic.

It's cheap transportation that doesn't come with a host of problems the salesman neglected to tell you about, at this price I like it.

How many people can actual drive a Manual/Stick? It's not like England. You love slushamatics here in Canada.  Also it's pretty hard, if not impossible to sell a car with out A/C when comes to selling it used.  Once it hits the $15,701 this car isn't such a bargain....which I think is what most people would opt for.

Having driven these for a week at a time for rentals I'm going to admit I'm in the above camp.

10K buys a very nice 2 or so year old Elantra or Cruze. Still under warranty, more room, more comfort more features etc etc.

You could get a Mazda 2 even newer (but still used) for the same $ that's a bit bigger and much better car.

I thought the Spark was pretty dreadful.

Lots of people drive manuals.  Half cars in the parking lot at my company are manuals.  We're are engineering company so the numbers is likely higher then normal but manual drivers are still far more common then the automatic crowd want people to think.

As for AC most of the used cars I've bought have AC that didn't work anymore.   Just a roll down a window.

With the new engine in the Spark, I think your splitting hairs with the Mazda2.  Which was way overpriced for what it was.  Now if Mazda Canada was selling the new gen Mazda2, that's another story.
