Nice offering in the segment.

That 9-spd transmission allows for AWD (as seen in the 200, Cherokee, Pilot, and a bevy of other AWD vehicles).  I wonder if this generation of van will be the first Chrysler minivan to offer AWD?

Correction, second Chrysler minivan! It's already been offered though the 90s up to I think 2001. Someone will know better.

heck, i get confused by it even... but yeah, i usually use the 2001 as the cut off date, but i think you could actually get a short awd van until 2005 iirc....

anywho... i've been reading up on this over the last little bit... looks nice. really can't fault much of what they have done, other than the 9 speed.... i know i should feel more confident in it (seems like the higher ups all must)... but i just don't.

oh, and surprising that it wasn't mentioned in the write up, but it now has the 8 passenger option as well. to me, that's one of the key things... i don't care about foot activated doors and tailgate, but adding one more person is huge.

(also, there is a ridgeline picture at the end in case you are missing that!)
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

I think they dropped AWD in 2004 when Sto and Go came in out.  Packaging problems and low demand for AWD made it not worth the engineering costs.

Yeah the original stow n go took away the driveline tunnel,   Clean sheet design for this one allowed them to do both.

I guess as you sell a lot of vans.  But only had 7 passengers in the van twice!  My Dad has never had more than 6 in the Sedona.  I care more about reliability, fuel economy, and the new hybrid.

Does the hybrid use the 9 speed auto as well?

My Dad cares about the features...

The hybrid will use some sort of CVT.

Our minivan is super handy the twice a year we have family in town. During those times, we often stretch 7, sometimes even 8 passengers in our Odyssey. Shhhh, don't tell anyone. I really need a legit 8 passenger van.

Even if we don't need all that passenger carrying space, it's nice to have me, my wife, two kids, and bicycles thrown in the back with the 3rd row down rather than having them outside on a rack.

^ Right our 3rd row is almost always down.  Being 7 passenger our 8 passengers just changes the 2nd row to a bench, which I don't like.

Like bring the two captain chairs together to make a bench?

Here's a photo of the eight passenger version 2nd row from chrysler.com...

Too bad we lose the 2nd row arm rests in the eight passenger configuration. Even outboard armrests so it appears.

The 3rd gen Honda Odyssey (previous generation) and 3rd generation Toyota Sienna (current) have both inboard and outboard armrests for the 2nd row even in eight passenger configurations.

The 4th gen Odyssey (current) has outboard armrests only. I think they intended that most people will leave that middle seat in folded down for the cup holders.

i'm not sure about that actually... possible though. the center seat is a lightweight removable seat so that the rest still stows away... i can't imagine they would drastically change the stowing seats to accommodate the one extra seat. interesting note though.

and as for the 8 passenger... yeah, as others mention, it is sometimes the configuration, not the actual top capacity.

Those passengers in the 3rd row will be almost in a sleep position...at least it appears to be the case from the pic above...

and i wonder if Yarkony will have an issue with the headrests...these ones have a definite forward lean to them.

It will be interesting how FCA markets this van given the new nameplate.  Traditional van buyers may be surprised and/or confused going in looking for their Dodge Grand Caravans or Chrysler Town & Country's.  And, how is FCA going to price this thing, especially if they want to maintain their status as #1 minivan in Canada (or America) by possibly losing their volume selling trim the Canada Value Package (or AVP in the U.S.)

Correction, fourth. The second, third, and fourth gen vans all offered AWD.

The rear windows look really small in the back, but they look normal sized on the outside.... Obviously the track takes up a lot of space.
