You get used to not having any knobs on the radio.  A rotary volume control would be nice if it was provided, but not necessary after you get used to it.  It is probably the same situation a Blackberry user would face switching to a iPhone or a Galaxy and then complaining about it not having a real keyboard.
:( I am by far not accustomed to the Galaxy's on-screen typing.  I have, since July, continually repeated "I miss my Blackberry" every time I type something.

Poor analogy!

Agreed. Going from a Nokia E6 to now a touchscreen Sony M4, typing is a lot slower and honestly, I don't think these newfangled phones have that much more useful functionality to me. Tactile feedback is important !

Even smartphones do not rely on touch-screen functionality for volume control. There is a rocker switch on the side of each device to control the volume. Not rotary but still mechanical. Lack of an actual knob or a rocker switch would give me a serious pause before signing my name on the dotted line.

I use swype.  Yesterday, it autocorrected the word "sleep" to "Ashley" (conveniently, I dated a woman named Ashley about...oh...12 years ago).

Here's the problem...the message to my Fiancee was:
"I am getting into bed and going to f*cking Ashley"

...instead of "I'm getting into bed and going to f*cking sleep"

Lady No-san was, quite fortunately, amused.

It is a real shame that Honda has put an engine that is so antiquated into a brand new vehicle.  Everyone else has DOHC and direct gas injection.  What a way to rip off customer's hard earned money.

Fuel econ is higher than CX-3 due to transmission differences.
CX-3 FWD auto: 8.2/6.7
HR-V FWD manual: 9.3/7.0
HR-V FWD auto: 8.3/6.7

No wonder manuals are a dying breed  ;D

That was my thought.  And even still, 7.5L/100km isn't THAT bad for the winter.  I'm in the 8s in the 'Rolla shod with winters and likely the sh!ttiest quality gas I can find...(thanks, Pioneer and No Frills for being so conveniently located and cheap as fack!  Paid $0.919 this mornin' - felt good to fill the tank from <1/4 for less than $35).

But I agree - this engine was the wrong choice, and it seems odd that a manufacturer capable of such excellence in engineering throws this crap to market.

In the 8's with the Corolla?  Wow, lead foot.

Averaging 7.8L with the 6, which is manual, with winter tires.  Avg speed on the computer shows 52km/h. About 70% city

Doesn't matter. The North American consumer at which this vehicle is targeted towards won't care and won't pay for forward improvements. People will still buy it in hoards.

Good stuff stays in Europe, even for Japanese cars.

Used to be true.  But less so now.  With more "world cars".  The Europeans may get their diesel powertrains, but quite a few cars that are the same in North America and Europe.

They can keep the Renault, Citroen, and Fiat (we all see how well Fiat is doing here).  Sure Renault and Citroen have a couple of hot hatches.  But we won't spend that kind of money on that.  Heck the Europeans will pay much more than we do for Camaros and Mustangs.

Same car, same platform, different engines.

The Honda Fit/Jazz get's the updated "Earth Dreams" 1,3 litre DOHC/i-VTEC Atkinson cycle petrol in other markets with 102 PS; although that would require premium fuel on account of its 13,5 Compression ratio (95 RON). Same top speed. Plus it's configurable with all the latest driver assistants, disc brakes all-round, rain/light sensor, and more.

oh gosh...no! Europeans always get this tiny/under-powered engines in their pedestrian cars! If the 1.8 is slow in the HRV, I can only imagine how much SLOWER the 1.5 Europe gets is.

I agree, with 4 people on board, do they have to help you push it up long uphill stretches??
