A $22,000+ model cannot be the "value winner" in this bracket...

But the changes are significant and I can't wait to give the new motor a try.

Likely not.  But the old version was heavier and slightly quieter and felt more substantial than the last gen competition.

The real litmus test will be how it compares to the redesigned competition.

Call me impressed with price point given the dramatic reduction in the value of the Cdn$ vs USD. Subsidiaries pay US parent in USD for profit contribution.

Car prices cannot fluctuate every time the dollar does.  If the Cruze jumped by $5k and it was quoted as being related to the dollar, it wouldn't sell.

In fact, if the average transaction price increased because of the CAD:USD, overall new car sales would plummet and used sales would also suffer as folks would hold onto their cars longer.

It'll happen eventually, but don't think the manufacturers are being "nice" in not raising the price - it's calculated.

Exactly. And it's also why it took some time for prices to come down when the Canadian dollar was strong.

costing is likely negotiated well in advance...so they likely have contracts on the parts/suppliers to provide everything needed to build the car well in advance...such things would be necessary in such an example.

Are they still going to sell the 1.8 litre base engine or is the 1.4  turbo the standard engine now?

according the US Chev website the 1.8L is standard on the L manual & LS manual & auto models.  The rest of the models get the 1.4L Turbo.

I just looked up the MDX, top trim - $57k US vs. $67k  CDN.  Factor in exchange rate and that US price is closer to $80k CDN.

My comment was aimed at cross-border pricing for the new NSX.
