But which engine will it have <- that's the big question.

Does Mazda finally turbocharge a Skyactiv 4?  Does the V6 carryover?  Did Mazda make a new V6?

I think the consensus is that it will be a turbocharged version of Mazda's current 2.5 but I guess we'll see.

Yep.  From everything I read, Mazda didn't want to continue using a Ford engine and rather than develop their own V6, it's probably more cost effective to take the Skyactiv 2.5 and set it up for turbocharging.

A new V6 would be pretty much limited to the CX-9 unless Mazda has other larger products in the pipeline so I can understand why they would use a turbo four.

Agreed.  The only other product that they could potentially have used the V6 in would be the Mazda 6.  That would satisfy the crowd that wants a larger/more powerful engine option.  Although, I bet overall take rate would be low.

Although, with the news of a turbo-4, here's hoping for the return of the Mazdaspeed6 AWD with a 6 speed manual.  And even better if the bring a wagon variant of it.

This is true.  I bet Honda is doing the same with the Accord and will put a version of the Civic Type-R 2.0L turbo in.

That's quite the unicorn you're wishing for!!   :rofl2:  Don't get me wrong, I'd be all for the same thing... but in reality we will never see something like that.  I still like the old Mazdaspeed6's every time I see one.  I think it would be a great car to pick up still and bash around in.  The proportions were just right in those cars I felt.
