Is the 2017 Ridgeline still going to be based on the Odyssey (minivan) platform?

Probably, but more inline with the Pilot.  Transverse mount, FWD biased AWD.

But in terms of body on frame vs unibody...?

More than likely unibody.  Body on frame would be a completely different platform.

It's not funny, nor a hard-statistic, but the only truck involved in accidents in which our clients are injured are Honda Ridgelines.  We've never had a client from an F-series, Silverado, Canyon, etc.  Ever.  Nor the defunct Ford Ranger.  Body on Frame was excellent for a reason.

Or maybe it's just people who drive Honda Ridgelines are more likely to go whining for bonus waaahmbulance money after a crash.... :P :D

There had been speculation that the new Ridgeline could be body on frame. I haven't really been following it too closely.

I know you're trying to be funny, but the crushing injuries that result from the Ridgeline's frame collapsing in moderate collisions is not funny.  None of the clients have soft-tissue injuries...they're all orthopaedic.

Also seems rather unfair to poise a 2001 F-150 2-door vs a 2006-2011 Ridgeline 4-door.

That, and the Ford was at 40mph, vs 35mph for the Ridgeline.

THAT, and the Ridgeline was notable in that video still for lower extremity injuries, which all of our clients seem to get in Ridgelines.

You never specified age.  And you also mentioned the Ranger whose design goes back a decade or two, so it wasn't THAT unfair.

From everything I have read unibody has no inherent benefits over frames when it comes to crash protection.  If anything it's the opposite since the crumple zones are easier to design into the unibody.

That said, interesting observation about the lower extremities.  Strange then that it was so well rated.

Fair enough...I'll simplify:

The Ridgeline's crashworthiness has been utter and complete sh!t in terms of protecting my clients from lower extremity orthopaedic injuries.

Better?

Thank you for being specific.  Lol.

Those crash tests don't really give the full picture of body-on-frame collisions with other vehicles.

In barrier collisions, the force of impact is almost entirely absorbed by the vehicle being crashed. It simulates two identical vehicles hitting each other head on.

In a real collision, since the frames are very rigid, they end up causing the other car in the collision to absorb a lot of the force that could have been dissipated by a proper crumple zone. As long as the vehicles are relatively close in mass, a unibody car hitting a body-on-frame car will end up having to dissipate a disproportionate amount of the impact energy.

Of course there's a lot more to it than that when considering occupant injuries.

intrusion into the occupant compartment = bad.
