There was also a recall on that transmission as well. In some instances the transmission was replaced under warranty.Hopefully doesn't apply to Weel's
situation.
I have the 5spd in my NA and the 6spd in the NB. I prefer the older 5 spd. Both have synthetic fluid in them.

I just read a 118 post thread on what's recommended in the ND. The people who used the Ford reported "not much change".

That's it?

I'd expect 118 pages, at least.
Well it was only 1 thread...I'm sure there are at least 118 of them!
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

The Aisin 6-spd in the NB is the least impressive of the various Miata transmissions.

I had a moment of complete brilliance last fall.  I started up the MX-5 then got out and put the fob down on the bottom of windshield.  Then got back in after a few minutes and drove off.  The Oh Fack moment came later when i tried to leave from my destination.  No key = No start.

Need a replacement.  Dealer wants around $350 for a new one.

Looking online i see one for $60 US, but then have to get the emergency key cut and have the fob programmed by dealer.  After that, cost would probably be close enough to the same as just buying it from the dealer....

Anyone have other suggestions?  Or is this a "put the key in your pocket dumbass" learning situation and hand over the $350?

I lost my Sequoia key recently, the only one with a transponder. My dealer wanted $400 for just one. I called a locksmith and he came to my vehicle and made 2, charging me $140 after CAA locksmith coverage. I also lost one of my 3's keys and I know it'll cost $350 for a new switchblade type key, I'll have to call the same locksmith and see how much they'll charge.

I'll look into some local locksmith options, but will likely just call it a life lesson & go the dealer route.
The weird thing is our CX-5 beeps like crazy if you get out while it's running with fob in your pocket.  The MX-5 did nothing... no beep, dash light... nothing to indicate i was driving without the fob.

Took a page from the past.  No beeps, trying to keep it simple.

I don't have all the details in front of me, but select PartSource stores recently got the ability to sell and program these types of keys - worth checking with your local store to see what they can do, apparently it's significantly cheaper than the dealer.

Around my turf, thieves are getting at cars by scanning for "smart" keys at a house's front door, then coding a blank key on the spot. If they can do it, a locksmith or parts dealer should be able to!

The good'ole days, they are gone!

from what i've read, it isn't that simple...it's almost like a modified old wives tale shared on facebook that has gone viral.

it's a neat idea, but i'm not sure how practical it may be...in terms of locating your items in your house, sure...but if you are hoping to find the location of your item you left somewhere out on the real world, good luck...the tags only communicate with Tile users...so, if you lost your keys on the side of some rural highway because they fell off your car, you'd only get notified of their location if there happened to be other Tile users within range (which isn't that far, maybe 50 feet?)...it's not like these things are in constant communication via a wireless network (cell phone network)...it isn't as fancy as the "Find my Phone" feature in Apple and Android devices as those communicate over the wireless network...it essentially works the same way, but over Bluetooth...you might find the feature works ok in places like Toronto or LA, where you have a lot of users, and possibly good density of users, but that's about it...the "outside" performance is too dependent on the success of the product/platform.

MX-5 update:
Now 5 (!) seasons of driving, at 31,000 km's

There is a good MX5 specialist shop that is a nice 40-45 minutes backroads drive away (Dave's Garage) that i got to do a fluids swap:

- LOF using Redline synthetic
- Redline 75w90 diff fluid
- Motorcraft manual trans fluid

This shop uses Redline and Motorcraft trans fluid, the Motorcraft was recommended based on my slightly notchy 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, so decided on that.
On the drive home the shift feel felt sharper, it snicks into each slot very nicely and noticed an improvement with the 1-2 and 2-3.  Still a bit of reluctance on 3-2 downshifts so will see if that gets better with some time.  Overall, a nice improvement but not night and day different since it wasn't terrible to begin with.
I read lots of good things about Amsoil, so can maybe give that a shot down the road

While talking with the shop owner, got to turbo and supercharger kits.... he has installed about a dozen supercharger kits that add about 100 reliable hp.
About $8K for the kit and $2K install.
That nugget is now firmly planted in brain... i still love the thing but this would make it feel all new again.

The Motorcraft works well in my MSM. Haven't tried it yet in the old 90.

Dave is quite well known in the Miata community . He is presently recovering from an accident he had last year.

I inquired a few years ago about  a 1.8 swap  into my NA.

He was very reasonable on pricing but ended up decided against it.

Turbo or Supercharger that is a slippery slope. :stick:

Good update.  I know you haven't put many kms on it but how has it been on the reliability front?  Will you have to get the carbon deposits cleaned out at some point?

I think adding a supercharger for $10K would be a great way to "renew" your love for the car.  I think I'd probably go that route over a turbo kit, even if you get more power and torque out of a turbo.

Yes he is...  a really great guy.
I didn't ask any details, but he is having surgery this week and his shop will be closed until next spring.

Yes, yes it is... cheaper than buying something new though!

Dead reliable.  All i have done is fluid swaps.
