It is parked in neutral with e-brake off.  I put a piece of 2x4 behind one wheel as a 'just in case'
Dolt moment...I was going to ask why you'd park your automatic car in neutral.

Watch out what you say. I said that in the Civic Si thread and got lambasted for it. :o

And I agree with you.

Battery maintainer I get...but why pump the tires up? Why chock it?  Is it going to roll somewhere?  Does it keep the tires rounder over winter? (why not put it on jack stands then?)  Really...why?  I've never heard of putting more air into my tires for winter storage.  I put them away at 35...I wake them up, yup, still 35.

I would not put the car on jack stands. I would think it would do harm to the suspension such as the springs.
I put my car on dollies so i can move it around the garage if i have to. I do not start it  during the winter .
Been doing this for 18 years with no ill effects yet.

I put the car on wheel-dollies and put some extra air in the tires.  I pull the battery and store it in the house.

I usually roll the car around a little bit every month or so to prevent flat spots.

Yeah, I don't know.  If you put the stands under the axle, then the car isn't hanging there loosely.  If you put them under the "frame" so the car is just hanging there...could it hurt anything if it's just hanging there?  I haven't had a car to put in winter storage since before I was married, and I just parked it in a barn, battery locked in the trunk, and didn't disconnect anything or fill the tires up.  6 months later started right up and I drive it out.  Which was good since there was no way to get to the battery if it had died.

Really? People would rather drive a low torque high revving screamer of an engine with a slushbox rather than a slick shifting manual? for shame... :banghead: :banghead: :shuffle:

A little article on car storage. http://phscollectorcarworld.blogspot.ca/2012/09/four-terrible-car-storage-ideas-and.html

Good article.
What I do depends on the car and how many shits I give...Recently I've been pumping up the tires, dumping some stabilizer into the tanksm driving into the garage and shutting her off. That's it. Sometimes I'll pull the battery and take it inside, cars that have more electronics to reset I plug into maintainers. I usually leave the hoods popped to allow a bit of extra airflow in the engine bay. Cars are not all that fragile....

Thinking it's time to upgrade the tranny fluid. (?)
The few times i've driven it in hot weather like today - after a while the shifting gets clunky, particularly the 1-2 & doesn't like being rushed.
Is that caused by too much heat?  Also notice the shifter vibrates a lot more sitting in neutral in these conditions.

Would a better trans fluid remedy this?

I don’t have answers to your questions, but not sure I would change anything simply due to performance on these extrem days. Stuff acts funny sometimes in extreme heat or cold. If it persists during “normal weather “ then maybe further investigation is warranted.

Enjoy the top down during the evenings!
I love it when a plan comes together.

Sure! A premium synthetic would be preferred.

What do Miata heads recommend?

What do Miata heads recommend?

Ford sells a Motorcraft synthetic fluid that NA and NB owners use with amazing success - particularly for the 6spd in the NB.  Not sure if it would be the right thing for the ND trans - double check the GL rating and weight.

The Ford one is Part# XT-M5-QS

The difference in my NA 5-spd was significant, and in any 6spd owners I've talked to, they use nothing but superlatives.

Yes, was aware of that stuff but didn't want to recommend since I'm unsure if it's the hot ticket for the newer cars.

I just read a 118 post thread on what's recommended in the ND. The people who used the Ford reported "not much change".

Turns out the hot ticket that people are loving that makes a substantial difference is....Amsoil MTL.

I can hook you up! PM me if interested.

Apparently the ND prefers GL4 over a GL5.

That's it?

I'd expect 118 pages, at least.
