So happy for you Weels! Didn't realize this was your first manual? Did your learn on a friends car?  When you push this button the HMI commander, what does it do?

Don't forget to talk to Julie about good routes... I may ask her myself.  It's not like I don't appreciate taking the 6 through some twisties.  It may not be an MX-5, but it's still a Mazda!

Thanks man -- yep it's my first.  I've driven the odd manual over the years and took lessons at Shifters a couple years ago (excellent program).
Now it is just getting the rhythm down in the Mazda which I'm 95% there.

The HMI is particularly annoying when Nav is on, each time you press it beeps and takes you to a menu.
Didn't do that with radio or iPod though, but to be honest I was enjoying the sounds of the car too much to care about the audio.

I'll have to hook up with Julie at some point for a coffee & chat about routes.   I think i'll probably join this as well:

Thanks all!!  I'm a happy guy.

Sooo awesome, glad you got to pick it up and put some mileage on it!  John's is the wee red, mine is the wee black, I guess that make's your's the wee grey one. I can't remember the color of Julie's.  Welcome to the club!

Mine is still parked, I haven't got it out yet.  The forecast isn't the greatest for the next 2 weeks.  I'll get it out after we come back from our cruise, which is 1st week of April.

 :drive:

Julie's got two of 'em.. a black NC and blue NB iirc.
I'd bet we still had snow on the ground here this time last year, so I couldn't ask for a much better weekend.

Not sure who on the forum suggested it.  But that's where Holly learned stick on the 6.  She learned with the testers car, a 2014 Mazda6 GS, kinda funny.  I agree great program, took her 5 lessons.  She still doesn't like driving it downtown though.   Not so much to stop and go.  Just the frequency of shifting, and fears little hills!

If your heading this way in the future, because you need to break it in! Gimme a shout we can meet for lunch.

^ Probably drove the same car..  a red base Mazda 6.   I can't remember the guys name that taught me, but apparently it was his wife's car.  That poor 6 took lots of abuse I think
Took the 3 lesson package, by 3rd lesson I was parallel parking uphill on a curve.  If you can handle that, you're good to go  ;D

If I'm out your way will let you know

Will you be winter driving it?

No, plan for now is to garage it over winter.
I even sprang for an OEM car cover for the sad day it gets tucked away in the Fall...

That's what most people do with these cars. It's great because you feel you have  a new car every spring.
It looks great. The fuel economy from the skyactiv engine seems  to be an improvement over the previous generations. My NA struggles to get 7 on the highway.
I can't wait to own a fourth generation one day.

Brian, we have to have words...you're a jerk!

So Saturday morning I'm driving home from our pre-wedding dance lessons (*sigh*) downtown Guelph and as I pass the University on Gordon going southbound.  Around 11am, I'm mid-conversation with the fiancée (a rather important conversation about choosing wedding songs, etc) when I see a beautiful, dark grey, 2016 Mazda MX-5 driving northbound.  I quickly say, "I THINK THAT'S BRIAN'S NEW CAR!!!  IT'S SO SWEET!  LOOK HOW SWEET-LOOKING IT IS!!!"

For interrupting, I got punched 3x, ignored for an hour, and then had to cook an "I'm sorry" lunch.

Thanks a lot, ya jerk!

(note: if that wasn't you, then ignore the above post and schedule a date with me to come check 'er out!)
(note2: if that was you, you're not really a jerk - but dammmnnnnn, yo, that's a pretty sweet ride!)

I'd highly recommend joining something like TrilliumMiata. Great way to enjoy your car through different events, and meet new friends in the process.

Biggest problem with a car like this (for me at least) has always been finding the time to drive it. Unless you're going to start using it to commute in (not a typical option for me) you'll find yourself looking for opportunities to drive on the weekends.....Which means nothing else gets done.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

lol - sounds like I may have had a better Saturday than you.   ;D
Yep, that would have been me @ 11am en-route to Angelino's (taking the long way) to buy our weekly supply of fruits & veg & bread.
This coming long weekend I have a line of family wanting to check it out & get a ride, so that'll keep me busy,  but we will hook up sometime over the next couple weeks for a look ride & beverage.

Not everybody has 1/2 dozen of cars to choose from.  This is only his 2nd car.  I am sure he can rack up 10k a year on it.

I've limited myself to around 4,500-5,000 rpm's for the break-in, but i haven't babied it.  Pretty great f/e.

That's a good thing.  The best way to break it in is to get into the high RPMs and then let go of the gas.  The high vacuum really helps to bed rings in properly.  Every car I did that on never had oil consumption issues.

Why the fack do we need Panic buttons on key fobs?
Here is the MX-5 remote.  At the bottom is the button.  The evil f'ing button.

Once i've pushed it wanting to open the trunk. BEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEEP

Twice now i've set it off while bent over with fob in my pocket, last one a few minutes ago in the garage with my ear about a foot away from the car.
Mazda almost owed me a new pair of shorts.

Go look in the manual to see if there is any way to disable it.  No.

What is the purpose of the Panic Button?  According to manual:

"If you witness from a distance someone attempting to break into or damage your vehicle, press and hold the panic button to activate the vehicles (really f'ing loud) alarm system.  NOTE: The system only works when the driver is in the vehicle or within the operational range while the key is being carried"

That range would be what.. 100 ft ?    STU-PID.

All other remotes i remember have had this wonderful feature, but those had buttons that were slightly recessed and almost impossible to set off accidentally.
Not this one.
