bit of a shame... but then again, you don't need to sell huge numbers to be successful... would you prefer to sell 15000 cars and make 10 grand on each, or more like vw and sell huge numbers and after lawsuits and such, lose on each one?

something to be said for working smarter not harder...

and 2002.. was that their top year? hard to compare that. i know their year over year hasn't been very far off over the time that i have paid them any attention...
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Porsche made a go of it despite low sales numbers though they did get hurt really bad in the early 90's recession and struggled financially through that period - they need US sales a hulluva lot more than they wanted to admit.

Today they're much more oriented towards larger volumes and using platform sharing to cut development costs.  It's the reality of the car biz in the 21st century - emissions and safety regs are stricter than ever and it's not as easy being a low volume producer.
