So do you have to fill 'er up with water? Is there a second fuel hole and tank? What if you live in an apartment and don't have access to an outdoor hose, do you have to carry a canister down to your car from your 45th floor apartment? Is it better if you use a Brita filter or  Poland Spring bottled water for best quality, maybe that distilled water stuff they sell at the baby supply stores is best?

You got it wrong.  You'll need the BMW branded water or warranty will be void.

To be honest, I would be surprised if they fill it just with water (distilled or otherwise).  I would expect that it should be filled with mix of water/methanol to get the gains that they claim (68hp & 36lb-ft).  The methanol helps increase the octane with the water aiding in cooling the intake air charge.  Something like Snow Performance's Boost Juice would do the trick.

Mmm. I could use some of that Snow Performance Boost Juice right now. I'm feeling kinda sleepy and have a few hours left in the workday.

Thats why I do not get all the stickers and badges on vehicles with the flex fuel crap....yeah, in the states, maybe, I have never heard or have seen an E85 pump in Alberta, BC, Sask or Manitoba.

There's Arcade Station in West Vancouver that sells E85. Some of my tuner buddies have started running a 30/70 mix of that with typically Shell V-Power gas and love the extra HP they get out of their engines. Downside is having to clean the fuel filter like every oil change.

Other than the added performance aspect, I'm generally against E85.

Nothing new here BMW was using methanol/water mix injection in their aircraft engines in WW2, primarily the FW190.

The only reason to run E85 is for added performance.  Why are your buddies running a 30/70 mix?  That's worse for phase separation than running full on E85.  And from all the research I have done, there is no need to clean the fuel filter that often.

It was very popular in aircraft, I've worked on a few water/meth pumps over the years.....the corrosion is horrid.

It was OK in German fighters because I don't think they had time for corrosion before they were shot down.

From what they responded, it kills the seals and gums up the injectors, since the components aren't designed to handle E85.

I think they might be loony.  E85 doesn't gum up injectors.  And any seal in a car made in the last 15 years is E85 compatible.

Unless these guys are running older cars and were just too cheap to upgrade their components.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I'm perplexed.  Doesn't make sense.

Yea..you think they got problems with exploding turbos...wait till you see what happens when an injection system fails.

Could you imagine if it fails open....  Hydrolocked engine would be a spectacular failure.
