Seriously, no comments on this amazing recap of Chris's adventure?!  Thank you for sharing - it's quite the trip, and one that I wouldn't mind reproducing at some point in the future.

The 3GT isn't exactly the variant of that amazing car I'd want (..cuz look at it), but I'm sure it was quite lovely to have for your trip.  It does go to show how much you miss out on by flying/training between cities though.  Very nice route, and thanks for all the info for the places you saw!

Nice read!

I was in Europe probably at the same time, and "enjoyed" the 40+ degree temps - better than rain when visiting!

Canada has two variable speed pilot locations, one in Alberta between Calgary and Edmonton, and the other in Quebec city.

What a wonderful trip (and nicely-written story). I have a good friend originally from Frankfurt, and she will enjoy this travel story, as well. Danke, Chris!

The A9 between München and Berlin is one of the newest and least congested autobahnen in Germany, and one of the fastest. It's not really representative of driving conditions in the rest of the country though.....

Try the A8, A7, and A5, or well, most any other autobahn in West Germany. After the reuinification, the federal gov't shifted all the construction money east and let the infrastructure sit.

Chris, the first thing I noticed while following a 3-Series GT was the absence of a rear wiper. Your drive confirms that the accessory wasn't suppressed for NA-style / prestige issues - it's also absent on the Euro version. Driving that in traffic during a snowfall must be a pain.

Holy crap that would be annoying in a slow moving traffic during a snow storm!!!! WTF BMW!?!?! This car isn't nice enough to be a 3 season car nor is a rear wiper going to make its Quasimodo a$$ look any worse/better/cheaper.
Lighten up Francis.....
