Was announcing new shared architecture ever celebrated as much as it is now?

Still, I don't care if it is a touch overblown. Some of those silhouettes suggested some pretty nifty cars. One was clearly a hatchback, and I've always had a soft spot for the C30. Even more so for the V50.

I wonder how many of these future vehicles will be Canada bound?

I think the success of the A3/CLA/2 Series will mean we will get at least one of the 40 series.  Especially if the next 60 series grows in size and price.

They did sell an S40 here, but it was just somewhere between nondescript and bad. From the Bad Old Days with Ford.

I actually find this modular platform thing to be really neat from an engineering perspective.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

“We will not be sourcing engines from other manufacturers. Instead, we will be offering three- and four-cylinder versions of our own new engine program,” Samuelsson said. “We will also offer a plug-in hybrid for the compact models."

I think this is a mistake. I don't see Volvo selling enough volume to make this work and would be better off sourcing Hybrids from someone like Toyota. Geely being the only variable that makes the difference.

Are there many examples of OEM's licensing other people's hybrid systems? A few parts here and there perhaps but entire systems?

Things are complex in terms of the number of different configurations exist so its entirely possible that Volvo couldn't get what they were looking for anyway. Plus business wise since they are using two modular platforms that can share drivetrains its a lot easier to get volume, plus Geely.

Royalty payments for using other manufacturer's technology can be quite high... Designing your own for the long term, especially with strong investments behind you, is a good strategy.

Pricing will be key to Volvo's success.
