For me, the G wagen should be a plain jane, Jeep Wrangler competitor, not the butch competitor to the Evoque, purse dog crowd. To me this doesn't make any sense, the AMGs even less so. The interiors on these also do not scream luxury, they are a utilitarian vehicle that the leather fairy was set upon.
Go sit in one.  The materials and fit is very top class.

Really, I have sat in a few and they are not anything to call home about. For instance an Escalade or Lexus LX is a much nice place to be.
Lighten up Francis.....

ditto for the type of buyer... there are two i pass nearly daily, both on the strong side of middle aged ladies though, not necessarily old... probably thought the wrangler was too pedestrian (or more likely, too inexpensive... i mean, my GOD... the gardener drives one!)

still super cool... but i'm for my rugged vehicle being rugged... not comfortable and easy... like a comparo i saw between an old jeep yj and a new rubicon, the rubicon beat it in every way, but was just not as fun and made everything too easy... kind of like the new gen of sports cars... can't even feel the speed until you hit 200km/h

would i take one? heck yes.

i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

Why can't it be capable AND luxurious?

Because its not, 20" rims with low pro all seasons, low hanging running boards, exotic carpets, low hanging bumpers and spoilers.....this is a Kardashian rated vehicle, to me, they completely ruined it.

It still has all the important hardware though, including solid axles and three locking differentials. You can easily fit better tires and rip off the running boards.

Approach and departure angles don't look too shabby:

Really doesn't look that far off from the more plebeian models:

There's no question that the G-wagen we get is compromised but to say it's ruined is an exaggeration.

BTW, exotic carpets shouldn't muck with its capabilities either.  ;)

Have you set in the newest ones? They updated the interior for '13.

I see the regular G comes with 265/60 R18 wheels/tires...can't tell the make/model of tires though. There are 4x4 pickup trucks that have worse offroad setups than this.

Looks like OEM tires are: CONTINENTAL 4X4 CONTACT SUV all seasons.

The regular, run of the mill one, that isn't available here, looks alright to me. That side exhaust and front bumper would get removed PFQ out in the woods.

Apparently you can get the G550 and the G63 AMG.  MB doesn't make mention of the G65 AMG on their website.

Very cool.  I'd wish they would bring over the G350d.
