Lexus GS depreciate like rock(30%) in 20,000 miles)! You should be able to pick one up for a good deal.

Right.  The GS suffers 'hard' from depreciation.  Much more so than all ze German competitors ::)

huh? did you miss the heavy discount VW is offering? up to $10k on the CC alone...
They were offering $7k even before diesel gate.
While that discount may have been offered before the media caught wind of dieselgate, it was certainly after VW knew of its impending doom - much in the same way that BluePrint got a helluva deal on his TDI ;D

On a slow selling, old, niche model in late summer/early fall. Big meh.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.
That makes me feel angry!

^ that.  It wasn't in defence of the Lexus; rather, it was commenting on the poster's 'concern' for resale values of a Lexus when he/she him/herself drives a GM product.  Also, that no mention was made of any other vehicle in the hard-depreciating class of vehicle, it's clearly a useless comment.

And we've already established that I bought out the Forester off-lease.

So Japanese high resduuals are a falicy?

I buy used and the bank uses kbb/Nada to figure residuals. They have always estimated my GM cars as more than I paid. Some times including sales taxes. Do your homework and you might ace this financial test.

Run the numbers yourself. Take a CTS VSport and compare to a GS F-sport. Buy your car from cargurus.com best price, compare on kbb.com, and watch the higher priced GS loose more value in one year. Remeber too no one pays MSRP when buying a domestic.

This is just my 2 cents, but resale value is generally not something I consider when I buy my cars. If anything, my experience with my prior Mazda3 taught me to not always base a car decision based on the numbers. A car that ticks all technical boxes could be totally unsatisfying, and for me as a car enthuasiast, that's a worse sin.

Plus, I put so many km on my vehicles (35k km annual) that I expect way worse than average residual value.
