TESLA Model Y
« on: October 03, 2015, 07:15:36 pm »
No joke. It appears the Model Y will follow the Model III and be based on its platform, essentially a baby Model X. Why so many letters? Because TESLA cars are S3XY  :D  It is also hinted by Elon that the Model Y will sport falcon doors.

At least, that rendered Y (blend of X & III) does not have any falcon doors but should be a hatchback  ;)

If they got rid of the stupid rear doors this thing might actually be popular. Plus maybe they could get better door fit than a communist block car.
Lighten up Francis.....

Wow! at this point i don't know what to believe, i currently drive the Tesla Model S and its the slickest car i have ever driven, If the Model Y can beat that...that would be awesome.

https://www.autoblog.com/2017/08/03/elon-musk-tesla-model-y-suv-will-use-model-3-platform/

Somebody tell Elon to drop the gull wing door idea.

Musk changes ideas daily.  At the start of 2017, he said that there was no way he was going to use the Model 3 platform for the Y.  I guess reality gave him a :censor: slap...because that would have meant a new factory.  He's changed his mind on what platform for the Model Y at least 3 times now.

he just needs to jack up the Model 3, make it a lift-back and add some cladding. Worked for all the other manufacturers, and now they are raking in the dough because, for some reason I still cannot fathom, people like the things

Minimal effort, maximum profit. No need to re-invent the wheel for every damn model.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

With a ridiculously low centre of gravity due to the batteries, Model Y will be a handling champ of the category.

https://insideevs.com/tesla-model-y-coming-in-early-2020-as-a-manufacturing-revolution/

As I've said on many occasions before, Tesla needs to build down-to-earth, simple and reliable EVs, not the over-engineered and unnecessarily complex space ships where door operation brings the CR reliability score to the bottom of the list. Just concentrate on making performance, driver's cars that are fun, reliable and relatively affordable and worry about driverless automation and other nonsense when the former is nailed down. Rant over.

2020 is another lie IMO. The current facility will be a max capacity once Model 3 ramps up.

So in 1.5 years time they are going to have a brand new factory running building a new model car?

Doubtful...

Elon is a lying sack of steaming dog vomit.
I think that is a bit strong.    I have no interest in his cars.   I wish he would just stick to SpaceX but I guess that is not enough to keep him interested.
