Remarkable how fast these things are (stunning actually)...gonna be dangerous in the wrong hands. Do they accelerate backwards at the same rate?

Death at the mall / country club / soccer pitch / school yard.

This must be the first time on this site I've seen a statement of concern about dangers inherent in rapid acceleration.  How about cars able to go around corners much faster than you can see around them?

I've been a guest in acceleration demonstrations in a muscle car, a hot rod and and some sort of JDM Nissan super sportscar.  It seemed obvious, given that rapid acceleration is typically done in more complex driving circumstances, that the resulting reduction in time for the driver to notice safety threats and react to them, was inherently dangerous.  Yes, and while the usual suspects here will blah blah blah about skilled and unskilled drivers, the danger is only less for skilled drivers (but who may offset their skill by flooring it more often).

Unlike the cars I was in, presumably Teslas have safety systems that somewhat compensate for driver capability.  So should Tesla also have a test to limit cars with Insane mode to owners with a certain skill level?
And some cretins think I hate cars.

Starting with the car's occupants with the "biodefence button". Air quality sensor is one of my fav things in the Genesis.

The affordable electric vehicle is going to die the same way as diesel cars here in North America...In both case they are going to be killed by their respective creators!

It's just less dirty.  Moving the emissions away from the tailpipe itself to wherever/however the electricity is generated.

The signal-to-noise ratio of this site's discussions continues to be disappointingly low.

I am actually disappointed. I thought the Model X was all about bringing to market an affordable Tesla more accessible to the masses?

And oh yeah. The pics with only the rear doors opened just look... stupid.

No, that's the Model 3 (allegedly).

Just a matter of what we're used to.

The only argument I can think of for the falcon doors (as opposed to what they used to be called: "gull wing doors"  I guess gulls are too commonplace.) is that kids won't ding other cars with them.

Decades ago I saw a rich fellow and his girlfriend arrive somewhere in his gull-wing car (either a Bricklin or DeLorean).  He and she had to sit there while the doors unfolded into the open position, get out, and then stand by the sides of the car while the doors folded closed again.  They just looked stupid waiting while the car did its door thing, rather than swing the things open and shut and walk away.

Sliding doors would have worked if that was the goal.

What happens if you're upside down with these gull doors?  Can you get out?

Neither retractable door handles nor these gull wing doors are worth the trouble ppl will have with them down the road IMO. But I'm not among the Tesla's target audience. If I could drop a 100k+ on a car than maybe I'd want something extravagant and unique, and maybe those things actually help to move Teslas, who knows. I just hope I won't have to pay for these toys when Model 3 arrives; just make it fast and affordable please.

meh...it's cool, but i can't imagine the market for $150k vehicles is really that big...wake me up when you make a decent car for $30k...Musk likes to talk about changing the world, but that will only happen when they make stuff most of us can afford.

I've seen so many articles today talking about its stunning looks. I just don't get it. It looks so ridiculously proportioned and awkward. Almost like a smoothed out pontiac aztek.

Wow..does it have to be so ugly?
