Why are you assuming there will only be one 190 hp motor?
Source for me to believe otherwise?

How about the Car and Driver article you posted?

The one that says:

Fours for the U.S.-bound A4
The powertrains we’ll see here in America include a pair of 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engines in 190- and 252-hp strengths
???

Whatever engine choices they offer, I'm sure they'll offering something that will be completely adequate for potential buyers.
So long as the engines use less gas than the current Tiguan...gah, the Forester XT, RDX, and Tiguan all in 2011 were effing pigs thanks to those turbos and low-speed transmissions.

Didn't make it to the next paragraph?  ;D

Europe will see additional diesel engines, including powerful V-6 models that were thick on the ground during our validation drive. We started our experience with the base V-6 TDI, which displaces 3.0 liters and makes 218 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, and it’s quiet enough at idle that you’d struggle to peg it as a diesel from inside the car—a good sign for the four-cylinder TDI coming our way. We lit the engine via a console-mounted start button, a location that carries over from the current car and one which Hackenberg demands for visibility purposes. He ordered the column-mounted indicator and wiper stalks to be raised higher for the same reason.

The Tiguan will not get a V6 TDI. The most powerful Diesel in Europe will be the 2.0 Bi-turbo with 240hp. I doubt, we would get that in NA though, more likely is the 150hp or 190hp TDI, if any. My guess would be that the gasser will be the 2.0 with 220hp. Also, the Tiguan is supposed to be offered with two wheelbases and the long wheelbase version will offer three rows. The long wheelbase version will be revealed at a later date. The GTE will be FWD only and I would be very surprised if it made it into Canada.

I read that, but somehow it just didn't register.

NA will only get the long wheelbase model. Jamie at VWvortex is saying that it will be "slightly" longer so it's hard to say exactly what that means but he also said it will be offered with both two rows and three rows of seats. I wonder if they'll go as far as offering the base model with the new 1.8T.

Max cargo space (rear seats down) at about 58.45 cu. ft. is still fairly small compared to RAV4 and CRV (about 70 cu. ft.) so I would assume it's still on the small side of the compact SUV range.

Some neat features from the utility/versatility perspective - rear seat 40/20/40 split, slide/recline (optional), folding front passenger backrest (good for long items).

Maybe that LWB version people are talking about will add a bit more space. Otherwise I really like this one (never liked the old one).

I read somewhere that the LWB version will be longer than the Touareg, but not sure if true. It won't be for sale here anytime soon anyways. The LWB version is only supposed to be revealed next year and the Mexico plant isn't even capable of building AWD vehicles yet.

NA will only get the long wheelbase model.

This is also what I read on autonews. So ours will be a bit longer than what we see here, probably sized at par with Outlander and Rogue. In other words, it's getting "bubba-sized" just like the NA / China-only Passat we're getting.

This is bad for many buyers - the Tiguan's huge success in QC is in part due to its tidy size - and good for others. When the Mrs says our minivan days are over, this would fit right in.

I saw tons of Tiguans btw in Europe, all diesels of course. You have to see the Tiggy in its natural German-speaking environment to see that it's right-sized (but not for Ohio).

I hope it will be at the Detroit Autoshow, but I doubt it.  Too early...

Keep that 2012 Odyssey in good condition!  When your minivan days are over...

It would 'fit in' with the power output of the competitors' engine choices (Rav4, Rogue, base Forester, Escape 1.6T, Outlander 2.4, etc)

To me it would be good if the NA version would be along the lines with the RAV4/CRV/Rogue/Forester with cargo figures around 35/70 cu.ft. and about 8 inch ground clearance. Throw in a 2.0 TDI option on a well equipped model for under $40K and it would be a serious contender for my next SUV.

However, this is wishful thinking as the jump from the current figures to what I would like to see is too big even for a "LWB" NA-spec version.

I would think the new 2.0T engine from the upcoming Audi A4 would look good in this tiggy.  Sure it'd be down 10hp but I think torque would be up significantly and with the reduced weight you'd get at least the same amount of performance.  Plus add in excellent fuel economy, which is one of the most important things when considering engines for vehicles nowadays.

If you have to drive a small CUV, this one looks good.

Pretty low mileage for a 9 year old van.  Looks good.  Hmm, what colour is the new one?  Where go to Montreal once a year, at least!   ;)

I don't understand why people want bigger and bigger cars. I was able to fit a ton of stuff in my father's Tiguan when I had to move out of my apartment/move to Germany, including my huge DH bike and seemingly endless boxes and luggage.  ???

Big cars just make parking more difficult and increase fuel consumption in my view. The 1 or 2 weeks where one might need a larger car for summer holiday, I'd just rent a minivan. Even with my generously-sized Mondeo wagon, I never came close to filling it up.

A few weeks ago, I moved my daughter to university.  With four people and a dog in the explorer, we put a Thule roof box on top for her bedding, hockey equipment, and other things, plus inside we had a fridge, her clothes for the year, and all the school supplies and electronics.

Everything fit, but a smaller vehicle wouldn't have worked.

That's why I wanted a bigger vehicle.  We often have five people plus a dog plus luggage.  That doesn't fit in a smart car.

The original Tiguan wasn't much more than a raised Golf.  Wagons held a lot more stuff.  If you wanted a bigger VW CUV the next step up is the Touareg.  Which is much more expensive.  VW is simply putting the Tiguan more inline with the current competition.  Maybe down the road, it will offer something smaller to compete with the CX-3, HRV, RVR,  Renegade, Encore, and Crosstrek.
