They need to bring the hatch version (1 series) over instead of the lame front wheel drive x1 and mini based active touring whatever

Isn't the new 1-series also based on the mini platform?

No, the current 1-series is still RWD. The next one will likely be FWD though.

This is the only BMW that actually interests me of their current lineup (well, other than a Z4 maybe) It seems like an honest BMW driver's car of yore, and it comes with the right proportion and size and actual windows.  But I'd probably go with an even simpler RWD with a stick.  (It is available with such right?)

I want to know how much better the M235i is than the more plebian 235i.  Hell, even the 228i is plenty fast for a 'cheap' sports car.

There is no plebeian 235i. Supposedly a non-M 235i was going to come to fruition at some point but I'm not sure if it would even make sense to offer one.

20-25% difference between the read out and the hand measured fuel consumption? These days with technology as advanced as it is, that smacks of purposeful fraud.

Thats a good looking car, brings back memories of the E30 M3 and that engine is a rocket.....saying that....is it ~ $20k better than a GT Mustang, or a 370Z, or a Genesis Coupe?? $60K is a lot of money....
Lighten up Francis.....

Maybe a few years ago $20000 would be a fair amount to get the refinement of the BMW, but these days, with the Mustang as refined, gorgeous looking, and powerful, not so much. I wouldn't pay it.

Hell, even the new Camaro SS does 0-60 in about 4 seconds, we know it can handle and the new interior is great.....$20K for what?? 100+ horses down, c'mon BMW, you gotta do better than that.

I, like some, would purchase a Mustang GT with performance package or a Camaro SS 1LE over the BMW. $60 000 for a 2 Series? No way.

the inline  6 in these machines sounds f-ing fantastic.   i really think this is the best sounding inline 6 in the world.

BUT, Mustang V8 sounds better.

BMWs (and FGCs in general) are always going to price higher than domestic (or Asian) "non-luxury" cars on a $$$/hp scale.   It really comes down to what you value most.

Personally I like the interior in this car miles better than the Mustang GT or Camaro SS.  You can also look at the recent thread on this forum where the poster reviewed his Mustang GT and pointed out all the bad body panel fits and somewhat ugly (IMO) shiny faux-aluminum interior trim bits.   The BMW is better in those regards I'd wager.

That said - I'd likely buy a Mustang GT, add a nice exhaust, maybe some wheels, and still pocket the change.   I'd live with the issues for the sweet V8 power.

I agree, when I bought the TT-RS is was more than just HP and 0-60 times.  The level of refinement, attention to detail, quality of materials, and exterior/interior aesthetics played a big role in my decision.

Same thing for a friend of mine who picked up a 2012 Audi S5 last week.

Does the '12 have the supercharged V6 or the NA V8? A friend of mine has a V8 S5 and I hate to say it but the drive is sort of boring.

V8.  His is with a manual transmission.  I haven't driven it yet.
