Well considering these two tires are in different categories, I'm not really surprised at which was best on the track and which was best on the road in every day driving.  I know that these two are close in both situations but you can tell that there is a difference between these two categories of tires.

I wouldn't mind knowing which other tires you would have liked to have sampled and which categories they fall under.  Which set had better wear in your testing?  I would have liked to have seen a braking test from different speeds, perhaps one in the dry and one in the wet.  That might have shown the differences a bit more.

Good article overall and I'm sure I'll be shopping for some performance tires in the next few years to replace the Conti's that came on my R.

The RE71R seems to be the hot tire in autocross now, surpassing favourites such as the BFG Rival and Dunlop Direzza Z2.   Even though they're still a Treadwear 200 tire, supposedly they are softer than the Dunlops and BFG's though and will wear out faster.

I may have to consider the RE-71R for my next street tire.  I wonder how they stack up to the RE-11.

Yes, as far as I am concerned. No regrets.

Yes.  I currently have PSS on my 300ZX.  For the street, it's a great tire.  Even under aggressive cornering on the street it holds up.

However, I need something with more grip under hard acceleration.

Cool.  RE-71R definitely top spot for me.

I have the RE-11's on my Porsche & they've got a crazy amount of grip... I can get them a little loose when they're cold, but once they've warmed up they stick like glue.  Looks like the RE-71's will be the way to go when it comes time to replace the 11's.   ;D
