Reminds me of Honda lately...We have an awesome new car coming, but not for a few years.

I have never driven, nor sat inside either the Micra or Mirage, but I have to say the Mitsu looks much better on the outside.

No the Mitsubishi is bad inside and out.   Maybe the one in 2017 will be a reasonable competitor to a 90s civic.

Drive them.  I did, back to back.  The Mitsu feels like a 70's tin-can and the Nissan is a real, modern car. The Nissan feels like it should cost 3-4x what the Mirage does.

So what are Mitsu dealers supposed to sell for 2017MY?

If I owned a Mistu dealer I'd be trying to get a different brand.

You mean 2016 MY? They still have the improved for 2016 Outlander, the existing RVR and aging Lancer, plus I'm sure lots of old new stock Mirage. Oh yea, and the iMiEV that sells even worse than the Mirage.

The Mazda 5 skipped the 2011 model year. The 2010 model year just ran for like 21 months and then they finally released the 2012 model in January 2012.

Mirage:
2014 (12 months) - 4,048
2015 (7 months) - 2,137

Micra:
2014 (9 months) - 7,815
2015 (7 months) - 7,151
location:  Prince Edward County, Ontario

I read somewhere that Mitsubishi were surprised how well this car sold in USA considering what it is.  Watch them actually put effort into it for 2017 and it be a flop now.

I saw a Mirage with Aberta plates last month while vacationing in NS.  That's one intrepid traveller.  ;D

Most Mirages I've seen have been with Alberta plates.

The Mirage comes standard with air conditioning with automatic climate control in the US, while you have to work your way up to the ES Plus to get A/C and SE to get automatic climate control here. So sales have significantly dropped off from last year while the Americans are buying even more Mirages.

The Micra isn't sold in the US.  The Spark is probably its main competitor.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

not surprising the Mirage is a flop...i said it would be when it was launched, even though i was smited severely for doing so...i've seen a handful on the road, and they just look like cheap POS cars...plenty of Fiestas, Rios/Accents, Fits and Micras, which all look like decent modern small cars...the Mirage is likely a great car for emerging Asian markets, but not an established market like NA, where the competition are all bringing solid product to the table.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

The only thing that really competes price-wise with the Mirage is the Micra - all the others come out quite a bit more.

And I think the only people that buy Mirages are the ones that didn't know about the Micra.  I'm no Nissan Fanboi, but it blows the Mirage so far out of the water it's comical.  I would actually buy a Micra.  I would not buy a Mirage.  Well, for $3K, sure.

I was a huge fan of the idea of the Mirage, cheap, disposable run around, great for students, elderly or people to get around a big city.....after I sat in one, it made any other horrid little penalty box subcompact seem like a bloody A8. Micra I would actually buy and drive, probably not even hate my life that much. The Mirage is a third world car that should have been left there.....either that or should have cost like $6-8k.

I've just updated this story with a few corrections from Mitsu Canada.
I used to work here.

what? the Mirage is a success for Mitsu...they sold 2x more vehicles than they had originally estimated - at least in the US. Not sure what they had originally estimated sales to be for Canada.

I find that cheap cars always do well in automobile centric area like the US and Alberta. Completely anecdotal but my impression is that Albertans buy half of the Canadian Mirages. I've seen more Mirages with Alberta plates than BC plates -- in BC.

The Americans have gobbled up Hyundais and Kias by the boatload 10-15 years ago when they were cheap.
