My brother rented a Taurus (3.5L) a few years back for a weekend dive trip up in Tobermory.  I was wary that it would be able to fit 4 guys, their camping gear, and more importantly, their diving gear.  I thought for sure we needed a minivan.

Not so.  That trunk is cavernous and the back seats immensely comfortable.

Shame about all those reliability issues.  I mean, fak...that's a long list of concern.

always liked the SHO as a powerhouse full size

shame about the reliability, makes me want to consider the German alternatives - perhaps a used S8? V10 powaaaaaaa!!!!!
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Maybe some of the issues mentioned with the SHO, show up on higher mileage cars.  How many km's on your car?

On CR, the Taurus has an 11% better than average reliability rating. The list of potential trouble spots is typical for about any used car, and nothing to be overly concerned with.

had a friend with one, said was solid except for carbon buildup maintenance. Said it was much better than his old RS6, which had a TTV8 which needed a new timing belt regularly, which required half the car to be taken apart to get at it...

Stupid direct injection.........that sucks because the SHO, I think, is one of the coolest full size cars out there.

Love that car. The SHO styling just jumps out when you see one on the road. Tauri13 appears to have bought the right model year as well.

DI is a big problem. My wife's Accent kept breaking down until carbon buildup was assessed on her car at 55k. After much fighting, Hyundai agreed to do a "goodwill warranty" which I found disturbing given that it's an ongoing problem in many DI cars. It made it sound like we were at fault and they were doing us a favour. Both of our DI Hyundais drink a very regular brew of fuel injection cleaner now...

Yes Direct Injection is supposed to be an advancement in engine technology. But it ends up you have to spend money on additives so that your car continues to run properly. It's strange because DI is supposed to give more power ,better fuel mileage ,lower emissions to a comparable engine without DI. It's kind of working against it self.

It actually works perfectly as most car buyers are ignorant enough to bring in the car every 20,30,40 or 50K km for a decarbonization procedure at the dealer.....its a financial coup for the service department.

Don't you know that people on this forum like to make a mountain of a molehill WRT domestic reliability?

Volkswagens and FGC's on the other hand, they all get free passes.

Its the soft touch dashes and soft closing ash tray doors that make all the days spent at the dealer worth it.......  ;D

DI seemed like one of those no brainers that had people thinking "Why didn't they do this sooner?"
Now we know why....
