A nice little piece, Pritch!  Any chance you'll do another one of these with a smaller budget :P?  Say, $30k max?

One nitpick - you have a picture of the 2nd gen Genesis in there.

I'd suggest the S80 fits this group better than the S60. It also depreciates like a rock going over a cliff.

The M37 is an interesting one. I test drove one a few times, briefly, and while it seemed all fine and everything it just....felt meh. It looks fantastic on paper though and the interior is quite nice. Maybe the V8 version would change my mind.

It was a great article right up to the Land Rover.....thats like telling someone to keep a few old artillery shells that they found buried in their yard, yeah, they look cool but most likely they will end up taking your house, kind of like the repair bills on an out of warranty LR. To me the Escalade and Genesis 5.0 R Spec are the winners.
Lighten up Francis.....

I like the social approach instead of the technical one...Reminds me J. Clarkson. Anyway, 300and Rover must be advertised cautiously with a big warning sign!

these 300s aren't so bad... nor are the rovers... still not to the expectations of many, but much better than rumour and more distant history would have you believe.

for the volvo, i think the 80 is a bit too dated to include... 60 is nice, but as noted, might be a bit small for most to include in the category. but if you aren't picking people up for your lunch meeting, it should still impress in the right way. (smart, safe, not too flashy, but solid and upscale).

you can always come up with others, but this is a pretty solid list.

That's easy.  You'll be looking at loaded Altimas, Accords and Sonatas.

The North American definition of cruising does not care about a car that is safe, quiet and comfortable at 200 km/h

"Comfort" is one of the greatest attributes (maybe THE greatest) of most cars in the  Lexus line up. Doing a write about about comfort cruisers (especially used ones where reliability is paramount, another Lexus strength) without a Lexus is dropping the ball IMO.

I also think a Buick should have been included too. And as Snowman pointed out, no Mercedes either?

I think the Lexus LS series is the ultimate pillow cruiser. I couldn't think of a better car for long distances.

The Cadillac XTS looks the part for not much coin and costs similarly too a LaCrosse or Impala a couple years old.
