Test Drive: 2016 Jaguar F-Type
« on: August 05, 2015, 06:28:36 am »

2016 F-Type adds more selection to driveline options, maintains classy hot-rod character, coaxes strong cussing from nearby scooter-kids.

IMHO, this is the best looking car on the road, but I can't stand the sound. I have a friend with one of these and while the initial "blat" was fun, after a while, it really got tiresome.

Wonderful car, though!  If I had the money, I'd have one and find a way to do something about the noise.

I admit that when I heard Tata Motors purchased Jaguar / Land Rover 20 2008 I thought as many that it was the demise of the iconic British brands.

JLR is now better in so many ways then it has been in previous generations. Styling and engineering direction is perfectly suited to the brand. The blend of the latest technological offerings while maintaining some traditional aspects is well executed.

This would only be a summer car, so no AWD for me (that's where the Land Rover comes in) but maybe not a bad idea on British cobble stone roads on a rainy day.

Now if I only had these problems deciding between summer and winter cars.  ;D

Carbon brakes add 10% over the bottomline... do they make the car 10% better or is it an option for bragging rights for the rich?

That's right and it's because the autos.ca group gets so many requests for testing data! In the same vein as the many requests for X6 data! :-D

^Agree. I've seen enough new C7s on the road in different colours to have decided that even though I have a few quibbles with the design, overall they look damn good. Saw a white one this past weekend and my traditional-Corvette-image hating wife said it looked fantastic and that I should get one.

Fleet management. I have to progressively role over the vehicles. Can't get the fun car until the Berlin taxi is gone...7 more months on the lease so I'll probably drive it through the winter (not so bad). FYI, a preliminary inquiry indicated that the MB store isn't interested in buying the car wholesale from another dealership who in turn isn't interested in buying out the lease. MB will take the car back now if I get another Mercedes but I'm undecided about that.

Smite away.

Mixing this thing with Aston Martin is a dummy job...I don't get it the same way as F-type never ever is going to repeat Jag's E-type famousness!

While it may be a wonderful car, the exterior fit and finish of 2 examples at the auto show in Edmonton left a lot to be desired.  At this level, you shouldn't have misaligned body panels with varying degrees of gaps.  The shame of the matter is that they are capable of producing good results.  Case in point: I walked over to the XF and the fit and finish was miles ahead of the 2 F-types present.

if I had the money and wanted something other then a Tesla, I would go with the Corvette. Finally saw a Corvette the other day, wow, love the sinister look.

Met a Corvette owner at a Tesla supercharger in Syracuse NY on our road trip last month.  He approached us and asked all about the Tesla, and was very interested in it.  His only criticism was that the Tesla was too big, and that he wasn't interested in a sedan format, but would be in the market for a next generation roadster in 5 years time when he tired of the vette.

We returned the admiration for his new Corvette, which looked absolutely stunning, and if it were powered by electricity, I'd want one!  I agree, it is the meanest looking car, and wonderfully styled inside and out.
