Nice price, but it screams boy racer and is unrefined compared to the Golf.

Its a bloody hot hatch....thats the point....its therefore better. I will take one in the most glowing orange hue they have  ;D

It's a contrast for sure. Not good vs bad IMO, just different.

I think the RS wears it's...design accruements quite well. And since it should be able to walk the walk, I think it works.

The Golf R has been avail since 2002.  I'd say that's established, no?

Either way, I guess we can say the new Golf R has been established as a viable AWD hot hatch and the new Focus RS will definitely be measured and compared to it.

Me likely.  A LOT.  I'm too young for "subtle" in my hot hatches.  I want fast and for it to look fast.  Well, except for the wing on the STi - it either needs a rework or to be gone.  The old STi hatch with the top-wing-thing?  Sweet.

But flared fenders and gaping grilles and Recaro seats?  YES PLEASE.

Make that spoiler a little more subtle and this is a winner. I am sure my local Ford dealer would easily do something about it to persuade me into buying one.

I am sure Ford could put the car in a wind tunnel and do away with that wing while keeping the downforce and stability the same.
( I am always reminded of the nearly 200 mph V10 M5 with no visible aero except a tiny lip on the trunk lid and there was no talk of that needing a wing)

And how long are those Pilot Cup tires expected to last?  10,000 kms?

Apart from that...I'd like it and could well cross shop against a Golf R

Would it be replacing the SHO or the Jetta?

From the pictures, it looks like the spoiler wouldn't be as obnoxious in the flesh. Also, it looks like the horizontal portions are blacked out, which would also reduce the visual impact.

I really like this - and the ST - I just need to get over my completely unfair anti-Ford bias. They are building some pretty awesome hat hatches!

I know the pricing is going t get it compared to the Mustang GT, but this is a COMPLETELY different animal.  As much as I love the V-8 'Stang, the AWD hot hatch would come home with me 10 times out of 10.

The STI and R seem to sell fairly well so I don't think Ford will have much of a problem moving a decent amount of these.

Since they probably won't put a DCT type transmission in this, Golf R would win for me by default.  To me these high HP super capable cars need a high tech transmission to take full advantage of their capabilities.  Opposite of older cars like my 330i where the automatic completely ruins the car and manual is the way to go.
