i like the hot hatches as much as the next guy, but $3k more than a Mustang GT??...hmmm...i'm sure the Focus is fun and all, but the Mustang is a Mustang and will still likely be worth something in 10 years if you sell it (as much as a Ford can be)...not sure i would say the same for the Focus RS...i'm sure it will be a hoot to drive, but judging by the lack of reliability i have seen in some of their recent vehicles, i'd be pretty hesitant about dropping $42-$50k on a Focus with a overboosted engine and fancy AWD system...i'd be worried about the out or warranty repair bills that likely have the dealership smacking their lips every time one drives off the lot.
