That is the thing with VW and Audi.  Everything looks and feels amazing at first.

Must be a thing with the newer VWs. My GTI is coming to 10 years and 250,000 kms in March and no wear issues with my seats.

Do you have leather? I find that VW's leather seats don't necessarily wear poorly, but the material just seems to stretch out and it looks like the seats are bumpy over time.

Yes, mine has the upgraded 'leather' sport seats.

So got my first real dose of FGC.  Back during winter I got into my Golf R and started to drive it.  I felt a little hiccup and then the "EPC" light came on the dash and the vehicle went into limp mode.  I continued to drive it to work and then called VW to get an appointment for them to look at it.  They said to bring it right over and when I got back into my vehicle the light was off and it wasn't in limp mode anymore.  They hooked it up to their diagnostic tool and they didn't see anything that would cause the EPC light to come on.  We all chalked it up to it being winter and the cold and moisture can sometime cause such things.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago.  The same thing happens, but this time I pull over and turn off the vehicle and it reset.  I thought it's been a few months so maybe it's just another random thing.  Then this week it happened twice.  Both times when I first start out in the morning and both times corrected with me turning on and off my vehicle.

So I made an appointment at VW to have them look at it.  My comprehensive warrant was up in July so I am only left with the powertrain warranty.  I told them that I would hope they'd still cover the cost as this was an issue that started back in winter and that I'm so close to when my warranty was up.  They basically said they'd see what they could do but that they wanted to find out what was wrong first.

That afternoon I get the call from them and they had some good news bad news for me.  The good news is that they found the issue and it will be covered under the powertrain warranty.  The bad news is the turbo is "not operating optimally" and that's the code that is setting off the EPC light.  They are ordering me a new turbo and next week I'll make an appointment to have it installed.

And this is exactly why I'll be trading it in on a new vehicle next July when all the warranty expires.  I love my VW and it offers so much of what I want but having her outside of warranty is not something I want to do.

Ouch! That's almost as bad as my transmission needing to be replaced.

If it was out of warranty I would have look at the Diverter valve. They are pretty weaksause and if they stick open you get the "EPC" light and a loss of boost. Approximately $150 part.

I have a German car with: a turbo, an automated-manual transmission, a battery, a bunch of computers, an electric motor, an inverter and other devices. And it's not on lease. No extended warranty. Am I doomed?  ;D

I'm just glad our Audi has no turbo.....would be one more thing to worry about.

IQ had to go to London this weekend. So she took her reliable car (with 400k on it) and not her Audi with half that mileage....LOL
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...
