I got the snows on 17's (vs the stock wider 19's).  It is officially a complete sleeper.

Thanks Johnny for the PM responses - loving the car thus far.

Looks good.  A sleeper indeed.  My brother got a set of the 18" Passat wheels for his R.  He hasn't mounted 'em yet because we're still having motorcycling weather here in S. Ontario.  :D

Went to Costco on Saturday to do some Christmas shopping with the wife.  I see the new Adele album is out and I knew my wife wanted it so I got it for her.  She immediately opened it up and played it in the R.

Is it sad that the first CD played in my Golf R was Adele?

Other news was last week when driving and having some fun (without my wife in the car of course) I go to switch driving modes.  No dice, won't switch out of comfort (which is the setting of choice now that it's winter time).  Hitting the button trying to get playful with the girl and she keeps telling me comfort mode is all she's got.

Next day when doing some shopping I hit the button and it's magically back and I can switch between the 4 modes.  Typical German electronic glitches.  Nothing worth mentioning to dealer unless it presists.

Oh and after driving around in comfort mode for the past few weeks, switching to race is SOOOO different.  I can't get over how heavy the steering gets and the difference in ride.  It's nice having a vehicle that can switch from a confortable cruiser to a harder back road carver.

I haven't used comfort for any real distance.  I set an Individual Mode with steering in sport, suspension and lighting Normal.  I also leave the sound to normal as well.  This is for regular driving.  When I want to dust that STI, I go to Race.
When messing around with the head unit trying to figure out another way to switch settings I came across the traction control settings.  Completely forgot there was 3 setting for that.  Have you played around with the traction control at all?  Just wondering if the middle setting is noticable (the three modes are on, sport, and completely off).

Saw you driving around on Saturday for the first time. Car looks sharp! Though with the winter wheels it's barely distinguishable from a normal Golf. nice and stealthy.

Thanks.  I'm a bit ashamed that I haven't washed her in over 2 weeks.  She's looking especially soiled.

Got a letter in the mail today from VW Canada.  Apparently they made a mistake in my owners manual.  This effects my warranty, basically the corrosion warranty goes from 12 years unlimited mileage to 12 years 200,000 Kim's.  Don't know if all 2016's will be getting this but thought I'd let everyone know.

Doesn't make a difference to me as I only plan on keeping my VW for 4-5 years and won't reach 1/3 of those Kim's.

Interesting, I'll have to check what my warranty on the '15 is.

I saw that Fredericton VW delivered another red R this week.

Nice! That is the biggest beef I have with my GTI, lack of traction unless I'm driving like grandma.

JohnnyMac, have you seen the Oryx White R that the dealer owner is driving? Wondering what you think of that color. I saw it parked beside a couple of "normal" white VWs yesterday and it looked quite distinct in that context. He has GTI wheels on it for the winter, I think it looks great.

Crappy pic but gives you an idea of what it looks like:

Got a message on the phone today from Fredericton VW.  They are informing me I have an appointment on Thursday for my 10 month service, and that they booked this when I bought the car.  Problem is, it hasn't quite been 8 months yet.  So not a lot of confidence in a dealer that can't count to 10 properly.

Plus the fact that I only have 5,500kms on the vehicle and service brochure states first service isn't until 15,000kms or 12 months.

I understand why they would book my first service in advance but they should have asked me when I thought I would be at 15,000 Kms.  Would have saved them a awkward call on Monday.

I like this color.  Not those GTI wheels, however.  Must be snows.

Yeah those are definitely his winter setup.  I'm guessing one of the GTI buyers opted for other rims so owner got a good deal on them.  Talk about confusing people, first they think it's a regular Golf, then a GTI, not until it's by you do you realize it has quad exhaust and is actually an R.

:o Isn't it a lease? Are you planning on buying it out? Or do they have high-mileage leases?
