Cute article - I suspect it won't garner a lot of comments since there's little desire for it in this forum.

With that being said, good for VW for building a nostalgic car. It's a far better thing than FCA's 500, IMO, and optioned equivalently, so, too, is the pricing similar.  I'd take this over the 500 any day (comparison made because both are fashion statements above practical car considerations).

I'd take a Mini over both, though.

This should be more reliable than the Mini and I think an I phone immersed in radioactive water will be more reliable than the Fiat...saying that, if you have to get a bug, get a proper one with the air cooled engine and a cool factor that nothing coming from the factory has today

Lighten up Francis.....

I really like it!

But it's hard to imagine ever buying one over a Golf, of course. Maybe if I had a six-car garage and too much money, I'd get one just to scoot around town for groceries or whatever.

And something about the car makes me want to load up the hatch with a giant wicker picnic basket and head out to the country for an afternoon of lazing around!

did you ever see my link to this one:  http://www.vwvortex.com/galleries/?c=show_image;p=Events%2FEnthusiast%2FWorthersee%2F2015%2FWorthersee%202015%20-%20Day%209;i=18;img=2015-Worthersee-VW-Audi-Vondruska-299.jpg

I missed it by just a few minutes probably when i was at that show, and will forever regret it. such awesomeness.

For the price of a New Beetle, you can get a really nice old one that has more style in one lugnut than a shipload of new Beetles do.

I have a confession, I too was a new beetle hater. Somehow this newer version just a has a look that has taken it out of that category for me, hard to put my finger on it though.

I like it. Minor quibble, the rims should be body colour, but that would be easy enough to change for those so inclined.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I'd take an Abarth 500 over the Beetle no problem.  The 500 is stylish, the beetle is girly.

But agree with Oliver, Mini beats both.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Lol.  Reliability wise, I feel safer with VW and that isn't saying much.
