Man, resale value of these things has plummeted!!  Trader's ads on the side of the page showed 2007 models for $12-14k for V8 models!

;) FGC experience?  Still, this car was a fairly bad-as$ soccer mommy mobile!  rrocket would fit right in  :rofl2:

Check the cruise control
Check the climate control
Check for powertrain leaks
Check the sunroof
Check for tire and break wear...or join the lawsuit
Check for wonky electronics
Check the power steering
Check the engine for misfiring

"German Engineering"?

NoTo, that is for a good reason.  the 4.2 V8, has a nightmare of a timing chain, with tensioners that are suspect and go bad.

AND - it's on the rear of the engine, requiring pulling the engine to access and fix.
If it happens, dealer price to fix $5-10k.
Parts alone are $2-3k

Although the link is for the prior gen S4, it's the same engine and issue:

A friend has owned an '11 TDI since new. He's had a few small issues with sensors and such but nothing catastrophic in something like 120k.

I really like the Q7 but I feel the interior space is a bit on the small side in comparison to the exterior size. Even the second row is hardly that spacious.

No. Get the 3.0 for one model year newer and a bit more money. The 3.6 had various problems with oil consumption that required an engine rebuild to fix...and most of these engined cars are out of warranty now.
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

Agreed, the 3.0 Supercharged seems to have solid reliability and it's offered in I think every model that has a longitudinal engine:
S4/S5, A6, A8, Q5, Q7.
Oh, too weak for the R8 it seems.

Unless you're going for the Sport (with all 333 hp as in the S4/S5) I see no reason to go with any motor other than the TDI.

Or do it right and get a properly engineered MDX and laugh at people who thought that buying an expensive, out of warranty FGC was a good idea  ;D

Unique design?  Looks a lot like a Dodge Journey in profile.  The Q3 and Q5, on the other hand do look rather unique, maybe even handsome.  Hopefully the next Q7 will adopt their styling Q's (no pun intended).

You and me, mind meld.  The SH-AWD is great, build quality is outstanding.  Why bother with an unreliable lump that really doesn't offer more?

Well the Q7 predates the Journey.

Next Q7 has already been revealed:

Because badging....."Oh you just got an Acura" versus, "Oh my god, is that your new Audi on the tow truck??"...that kind of thing is important to some.  ;D

LOL I'm in a unique situation where I'm driving a 2010 Q7 with a V8 while my MDX is getting her face fixed.

After driving this beast for over two weeks, I don't hate the thing.  Power seats/windows, sunroof, cruise control, BLIS, backup camera, backup sensor, A/C, etc work well.  Yes, the fuel consumption is pretty bad, but that's to be expected from a 4.7L V8 with a lot of weight + mostly city driving.  I agree that the Bose audio system sounds good, slightly better than the Bose rig in my MDX to my ears.

However, SH-AWD trumps Quattro in my opinion. And reliability of Acura wins in my books.
I want a newer MDX when my 08 eventually retires.

Audi sells a lot of stuff I really really like but their large SUVs have never resonated with me.

Me too, the TT that Snowy has(TT-RS??), RS4, RS6 and RS7 are amazing cars, their SUVs are not something I would consider because bland, overpriced and do not have the best reliability record.

The Q7 always seemed tight on interior space for the exterior dimensions. Felt narrow inside and the high load floor in the cargo area really cut down the utility. The third row seats were not good.

I don't think most people buy cars because of badging or " look at me, I'm unique". Maybe they buy a mini because they have cash and just want a fun car or they buy a Q7 because they want a large 7 passenger that has a nice ride. I wouldn't personally buy either one but to each his/her own. A friend of mine just bought a four year old MDX and promptly dropped over 3 grand on repairs 2 months into his ownership.
