Look, I like backup cameras, but I don't support absurd price increases of $800!

Put me in the camp of "what the damn hell?!"

Make it a convertible and put the "performance" part of the equation to bed.

A convertible idea was toyed with - it'd also greatly add to the attraction of the car.

I don't know why, but the idea was 100% dropped :(

I think that the initial cadre of rich high school and college kids in the USA have moved on to another toy from mom and dad and Toyota needs to find a different more reliable demographic.  So a vert would be perfect in auto of course  ;D

I love the Toyobaru so much as a starting platform... but man, the price really kills me. I honestly believe if this car listed and sold for $24,995, it would do soooooo much better.

^^^ What Ronnie just said.  Not to mention, with the 370Z Enthusiast coming next year at a price just under $30k, it's going to be hard for Toyota & Subaru to move the FR-S/BRZ.

Base price of the '13 FR-S was $25,990.

The price doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I'd gladly pay the extra cash for the Subaru version.

Yep, would be a perfect summer car then.

Dad had a brief thought to getting an FR-S, and I admit the car is wonderful - it handles amazing well, the cabin is cozy and a great place to drive fast, and though it "only" has 200hp, it can be driven VERY quickly.

The initial thought was for a year-round car, but the roof-less-ness of the S2K had him bail on the FR-S.  "Better to have a roadster even if it's a 7/12 of the year car."

I get it.

I thought many were sold over MRSP when it first came out when the waitlist was long...I guess the hype died very quickly after that...

The car is quite fast on it's own.  You just have to work for it a bit.

I admit the car is wonderful - it handles amazing well, the cabin is cozy and a great place to drive fast, and though it "only" has 200hp, it can be driven VERY quickly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=romf-G6CZ7g  Chris Harris - so critical of cars - loves it.

I don't get the lack of love for the BRZ/FRS/GT86.  It's an enthusiast car through and through.  It's RWD, has more than enough power for 99% of street driving, has an amazing chassis, a very good engine, and it's realistically a $30K car if you're prudent.

Is it going to post big sales numbers?  Of course not!!  It's barely got a backseat, it's tiny, it's low, it's RWD.

I didn't get a ton of seat time in the test drive, but even with that, loved it.  It only takes a few on/off ramps to fall for one.

I agree, still catches my eye when I see them.  200hp is enough power for me, but it would probably remind me a bit of my Mom's Celica GT-S, lot of rowing to access the small of amount of torque at such high rpm.  Some coupes, I would use all year round, probably not this one.

It has the sweetest aspro Subaru engine, by far.  Normal Scoobs fall flat on their faces by 6000rpm - the little 2.0L is a rev-happy beast that feels more Honda/Toyota than Subaru.  Go for 7000rpm, it's great up there.  I think the reason some people find it sluggish is that they know it's a Scoob boxer so they won't keep the revs up.  I do admit that the tall gearing works a bit against you there, but it's doable.

It's NOT a dragster.  OMG -no.  This car needs to be moving.  Forget trying to race away from lights, and if you are, what the hell is wrong with you?  Buy a Hellcat.

It's low.  Ground clearance is minimal.  The boxer and this low to the ground design really contributes to this car's greatness.  And would make it tough to live with in Edmonton in the winter, even on snows - thanks Edmonton for your poor plowing!!  Now everyone needs a lifted 4X4 just to go to work.   >:(

I wonder if Toyota had any hand in it at all?  'Cause it feels very un-Subaru-like.  It does use a DI system similar to the Toyota one - so who knows.  The first time I got into the throttle I kinda felt "this would be more like a Porsche entry level H4 - smooth, rev-happy and making mechanical noise without sounding like marbles in a washing machine."
