Topic: First Drive: 2016 Mazda MX-5

Once again Mazda has failed to deliver what the people are asking for.  Why can't they put a real motor into to this faboulous car?

Get rid of the Electronic Gadgets and spend the money on the engine.  My prediction is that 200-225 BHP with 180+ Torque would double the sales numbers and double the fun. I'm not suggesting massive horsepower but just more so that a Toyota Sienna doesnt leave you in its dust.  Dont give me this whole "Whole Package BLAH BLAH BLAH ...not about BHP crap....." I understand the concept of balance but 155 BHP in my opinion is not a balance.  Its a joke.

Mazda has created another FLOP following closely in the shoes of the BRZ and FRS.  Don't get me wrong....I love Miatas but wish Mazda would give me a reason to buy another one.

If only the engine was as sweet as the exterior styling.....WAKE UP MAZDA !!!

Did you just join this forum to trash talk the Miata.  People will hate you on this forum if you trash talk a Miata or a Subaru.  The people that are asking for more power did get it.  It's called a bigger power to weight ratio.  Mazda has always marched to they beat of their own drum.  They don't care what the others do, bigger cars, more hp.  If you dont understand this.  Then you shouldn't buy a Mazda, stick with a Mustang.

And I'm not saying I did sing and dance along to it in the carpark of a hotel on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.... but I did.

Almost every single first drive event is pre-production, didn't think it needed spelling out.

Did you sit in the white one?  Was the white paint on the inside door panels "loud"??

My gut tells me the MX-5 was designed around the 1,5 litre. Just sayin'.

I struggle to fully understand the MX-5. My father had a NA and NC, the latter of which I drove on occasion before he sold it. It's not a bad car at all but I never liked the suspension and lack of road manners. But there must be something about it.

It's cheap to buy.

I'd still take a used S2000 over any Miata.

They paint the top inside of the door panel the body color of the car.  Seems white might be a tad bright on the interior.  But I guess you didn't notice...

Oh, you're asking if it's too bright and distracting. No, I didn't find it to be, and it was a pretty vivid day. I guess the shape or something helps it be less reflective, but no, it's not distracting.
Having said that, I still wouldn't choose white. There are better colours in the palette.

Ostentatious and conspicuous are different to "bright". Where I'm from, "loud" means lairy. Means something that is obnoxious. You're referring to it being distracting and bright when driving. That's different.

I only grumbled about 1 thing (pre-production unit).  I merely asked if the bright white was "loud".

Seriously...I honestly thought you'd never heard "loud" used in that manner before as our use of slang is different than yours (on occasion).
