When I drove my Miata on the freeway I was constantly trying to put the car in the next higher gear.  Unfortunately, I was already in top gear.  4000 rpm at highway speeds can get tiresome after a couple of hours.
On the other hand, my V8 Miata turned 1900 rpm at 120 kph.  When I replaced the tranny I had them install an extra long 5th gear.

I tracked various cars (all with standard transmissions) for over a decade and never once forgot what gear I was in.  It's hard to forget when you're constantly shifting.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

I find the high rpm on the highway in the Miata annoying but the wind usually has me stopping before the buzzy rev level.

I've done some 1400km days in the Wee Red Roadster and have to say I was completely whipped at the end.

Most people would be fairly done in after 12-14 hrs in any car...

I've been riding bikes my whole life. My new Honda is the first bike I've ever owned where I'm not 100 percent what gear I'm in. The gear spacing is just so close. I've tried to shift into 7th gear pretty much every time I ride it.

It's very odd. I can now see why people add a gear indicator onto the bike.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I did that a few times when I rented that CB300F. I'll likely do it a dozen more times going across the country. A bit annoying but it doesn't hurt anything.

hahaha!

and yeah, i meant the gear indicator thing, not a shift indicator... lots have a signal/dot that lights up when you get to a shift point, but i've never seen anything to tell you what actual gear you are in. you *should* be able to tell, but sometimes things are wonky... music blaring, roof down, not looking at rpms... bunch of times i don't even notice until i get to work that i was in 5th the whole time rather than 6th... might have noticed if i glanced at the speedo (or just *gasp* looked at my shifter... but still... i don't rest my hand on it or have the need to look usually).

Hey two scoops, the gear indicator that shows what gear you are in is on the R and STI just to clarify....👍

it is? alright, now i don't feel quite so dumb for thinking it's not that bad an idea...

and yeah, i don't forget what gear i'm in often... but it *has* happened... like i said, just glancing down or putting my hand on it would be all i need, but i'll forget that i down shifted to 5th and just keep cruising... no big deal as rpms still aren't bad, but again, roof down and music blaring i hardly notice it... likely wouldn't notice the gear indicator to be honest either.
i used to be addicted to soap, but i'm clean now

I always thought the GTI had a gear indicator, but I paid more attention today and realized that's not quite correct. What it does have is an indicator to tell you what gear the computer thinks you should be in.

So, yes, sometimes the indicator will show what gear you're in, but not always. If you're in third and the computer agrees you should be in third, then it will show 3. But if you're in third and it thinks you should upshift, the indicator will show an arrow and 4, 5, or 6. I don't know, but expect the R is the same.

And as far as the "money shift" goes, the indicator wouldn't help. The display goes blank as soon as you shift, and doesn't come back until after the new gear has been selected and the clutch pedal fully released.

a Mini owner?

likely not someone overly familiar with cars, hence why they bought that in the first place.  :P

Maybe it is better that BMW and other car companies restricts access to the engine bay. Have CAA like techs all over the country who will top up the oil or windshield washer fluid for you if it's low.

My French is only so-so, but from the original Facebook post it appears that the owner was a blonde woman. Shocking, I know.  ;D

Or maybe "femme blonde" is just Québécois slang, and the actual person who did this wasn't really blonde or really a woman.

This is how you add oil.  Next she showed how to add 5L of washer fluid.

Not sure of the accuracy concerning the gender of said Mini owner, but I'm 100% certain they own a purse dog.

I bet that femme blonde is exactly the same as saying blonde in a English in a a blonde joke with the same reaction expected from the reader.
